WOW!! Can you say wrong place, wrong time??!! And not for anything............that's the first thing she says upon your arrival??? I would've been mad too, that's just not right. There is a place and a time and although she's excited telling everyone at the start of your shower is just not the place and time.

wow, she's unbelievable! What did she think she would accomplish by doing that, except to make herself look like a fool? Was her niece there? If I was her niece, I would be upset that she shared my news publicly at someone else's shower!!!
I am very blessed with a wonderful MIL, she treats me like her own daughter (DH only has a brother) and gets along with my mom very well.
So hearing something like this really shocks me.
Glad you had a good time at your shower despite the episode!

What a character! Way to be classy though! That was great. I can imagine the gossip after your shower about how ridiculous of your MIL to TRY and steal your baby-thunder :)

When I went over to the neice, she just kept apologizing and she was frozen in her seat. She didn't even look around the room to see what everyone else said/did. You could tell she was embarrased that MIL made the announcement at my shower.

RUDE RUDE RUDE.. is all i can say. I would be soo mad and upset if my mil did that. Its not a matter of seeking out attention.. this was YOUR DAY to celebrate your new baby.. she shouldnt have done that.
