OFF bug spray

Is it ok to use bug spray? I was at Hecksher last night for a softball game and had to use some bug spray because the bugs were out of control!! I came home and took a shower right away.

Re: OFF bug spray

My doctor told me it is better to use OFF than contracting West Nile virus. I have also read in all my preggo books that for some reason, we are more susceptible to being bitten than the general population.

Naturally, Avon's SSS is preferred, but he emphasized that OFF is perfectly safe.

Re: OFF bug spray

They have different types of OFF spray now (one I think is called Family which is more powdery than slimy and sticky). It's an aresol, but not the kind that makes you cough your head off...

I have definitely noticed more bug bites than normal, so I choose to use it in the evening when sitting in the backyard. It didnt occur to me to ask my doctor.

Re: OFF bug spray

My dr said it's fine just use it outside so it's well ventilated.

Re: OFF bug spray

With DD my Dr. told me that no testing had been done on the effects of using it while PG. She recommended to not use it.

We went camping and I literally did not get one bite (I normally get eaten alive) - I guess the acid reflux I had was good for something! Someone told me that the acid in your blood turns off mosquitos. I'm not sure if it is true or not but while everyone was getting bitten up, I had nothing.

Also, some friends of mine who don't like to put bug spray on (for whatever reason) spray their chair and the table if we are sitting outside as a deterrent. It seems to work for them and you don't have to worry about the skin absorbing it.

My doctor said the same thing.

Re: OFF bug spray

I believe anything with DEET is bad. I would use something without it.

Re: OFF bug spray

I used to use this when not pg, but ttc. I haven't used it since but likely need to b/c I get bit even if I step outside for 1 minute some days. I have to ask my dr about this though but I can't see why we can't use it b/c it's all natural. Only thing is it's pretty greasy.
