Pool Question

How come whenever I talk to anyone (non pregnant people) about going in my parents pool most of them say "Are you allowed to go in the pool?" Why would I not be?

I keep on forgetting to ask my Dr but I am assuming, since its summer and all , he would have said something already. Chat Icon

Re: Pool Question

The pool is perfectly fine. Its in fact good for you since it releases any pressure on your belly if you further along since there is no weight in water..I always answer peoples fears by saying people give birth in water so it must be good that usually shuts people upChat Icon
Just dont go in a hot tub cause thats too hot for the baby

Re: Pool Question

I heard it is the best exercise.

After mY IVF transfer, swimming was a no-no. But, two weeks later it was fine.

Re: Pool Question

I was on strict bedrest at the end. Not allowed to do anything. But when I asked if I could go in the pool - doc said absolutely.

I don't know why you wouldn't be allowed. It makes you feel so relaxed and weightless for a change. I found it to be very therapeutic.

Re: Pool Question

The thinking about pools (and baths) used to be that bacteria, or other impurities, could enter through the vagina and harm us and the baby. My sister dealt with that thinking when she was pregnant 17 years ago. Thank goodness they amended that!!!

Re: Pool Question

One of the reason why they dont want you going into the pool is that your water can break and will not know it. This for wonman that at 7 months or more. That is what I was told my many doctors.

Re: Pool Question

The pool is fine. I even asked the doctor if you want to. But it will help with your joints.

Re: Pool Question

When I was pregnant I asked my dr about the pool and he said it was fine provided I wasn't dilating and my water hadn't broken - He said they tell women in the final days to be careful only for infection reasons - otherwise I was told to go in the pool and enjoy it.

Re: Pool Question

I would think they are thinking of a public pool. I know some drs are not keen on public pools b/c of diseases if the pool isn't treated properly and all the people going in them.

I've actually never heard this before. Keep in mind, that the clorine in public pool will kill almost anything in them. Actually public pools are fairly clean.

I agree they are fairly clean. But I would think they run more of a risk of germs than a family owned pool b/c you truly don't know if it's the proper PH. Anywhere you have water and thousands of people there would be the element for certain diseases to hang out, even from simply touching the railings and walking on the ground where others are walking barefoot. But I am a germaphobe so this is my thinking.

When I would go to the local public pool which is spotless (as a nonpg lady), I would still try to be careful regarding diseases/germs. You have all these little kids with runny noses, hovering by the railings. Walking around, there are barefeet touching the same surfaces, etc. Then you get those gross people who blow their nose into the public pools when they get water up it, etc. On top of the fact that everything is wet so you really can't tell what's what.

So I would get a bit skeeved even as a non pg lady. As a pg lady, I personally would not go in a public pool (but a family pool, if allowed, yes). But again, I am a bit of a germaphobe! Could be just me. Chat Icon I know one dr I saw when I was ttc told me no public pools and I had to say I personally agreed!
