Hiking/Kayaking?
I'm going up to Bar Harbor, Maine in a few weeks. I'll be about 20 weeks pregnant. When we go there, we usually hike the trails at Acadia National Park and spend at least one morning sea kayaking. My doctor said I could hike and kayak, but to just take it easy.
I certainly get out of breath more easily now and am not exactly in the best of shape. I'm in no better or worse shape than I've been on previous trips there.
Has anyone gone hiking or kayaking while pregnant? Is it ridiculous to even consider doing these types of activities?

Will the water be rough? If so, I think I would skip the kayaking. God forbid you hit a rough patch and flip over or something worse.....

On previous trips, the water was ok. There were a few bumps, but nothing where we were in danger of flipping over. We take a 3 hour guided tour with a break for lunch (probably about 45 minutes of rowing each way). They're tandem kayaks so I'd be going in one with DH.
I'll definitely skip it if the water is rough. I'll also ask the place a bunch of questions about whether pregnant people can go/have gone, etc.

Re: Hiking/Kayaking?
I would never do the kayaking or the hiking being pregnant, too uncomfortable among other things

I went hiking in NH at 20 weeks and it was fine. Just drink lots of water and watch your HR. Mine got up there at one point so i had to sit and rest for awhile, but otherwise I was prefectly comfortable.

Re: Hiking/Kayaking?
My husband and I still hike all of the time, just more slowly. Bring tons of water and suncreen!

Re: Hiking/Kayaking?
We just went hiking and kayaking in Vermont. I was 31-32 weeks!
I did not do any hikes where the terrain involved slippery rocks - I feel fine, but I do have to accept that my center of gravity has changed, and that would just be a selfish risk to take. Also, any ascending made my heart race, even if done slowly, so I had to keep my heart rate in the safe zone for preggos - no problem, just took long. I checked with my doctor about the elevation, and he said that the heights in New England are not especially an issue. (Hiking the Rockies on the other hand...!)
As far as the kayaking, we kayak in a reservoir, so the water is calm. It was great to be able to relax that way, and it was indeed very relaxing!

Re: Hiking/Kayaking?
I am hoping to go canoeing on the Nissequoque this summer. I think if you don't push yourself too hard and are not dealing with any nasty terrain for the hiking, it's okay. I'd check with your doctor though to just be extra safe.
