Just recieved this from the girl who runs suffolkcountyunleashed
This is an email I recieved from Gina who runs the suffolkcountyunleashed.com website and is a huge supporter of the Middle Island dog park:
Hello,
Currently existing at the park are a group of people who have organized against Suffolk County Unleashed. As our organization has worked very hard with Connie Kepert and the Town of Brookhaven in securing the park, I am counting on your support during this difficult time.The people involved want me removed from the park, are spreading fictitious and malicious rumours against me, have slandered me on Craigslist, have called a news conference with News 12, and are involved in a lawsuit against the town regarding the rules and regulations they want changed. I have even received threats on my life and have been told by one person involved he will kill me. I encourage all of you to not sign any petitions which they are circulating daily, to not get involved in their campaigning, and most importantly, disregard the rumours that are being circulated.The main rumour that is being circulated now that I would like to address is that I "kick dogs." May I stress that I was the Long Island Chapter of Doberman Rescue Unlimited for 5 years in the 1980's, work with various shelters on Long Island regarding adoptions, and our organization is currently involved in an investigation regarding a local pet shop in our area for allegations of neglect- I have a flawless reputation regarding my work with animal rights issues, and certainly have not been involved in any incident that would involve "kicking" a dog- my record speaks for itself.Please support Suffolk County Unleashed for the dog park that was voted "The Most Comprehensive Security Measures of Any Dog Park in the Entire United States" by Dog Park National News. Looks like that was a precursor to this Newsday article
I'm of the opinion that an aggressive dog will be so regardless of whether there are toys around, and should be under constant supervision by their owner. But I've heard from you guys that many people go to dog parks to just let them loose and ignore them. So I don't know what to believe, personally.
It's just a shame that something so good for dogs is getting tarnished like this by humans.

I posted the email as an FYI really, I am a member of SC Unleashed.
Im not sure who to side with, toys, in my opinion, can cause issues if there are irresponsible owners there. To come down on one single person the way that they are though, is wrong. I hope they do nopt intend to shut it down already I havent been able to get my girls there yet

I agree. To me, this seems very childish and playground like. And to ban someone? That's ridiculous. Sometimes in life, the more you do for people, the more you get stabbed in the back.
The one guy says his life depends on his dog and the dog park. Yeah, so, what's the problem? You can go there, no one is stopping you. Just don't bring toys. I am sure this is a basis for this. Many people DON"T watch their dogs enough in a dog park.
I don't see the big deal, to make such a huge issue out of this. It's not the schoolyard people. Fight the rule then, don't fight her. They need to get a grip and grow up, and stop trying to ban someone from a public park.

Ok now I get the story.. This is just ridiculous!! She is a volunteer who really has no real juristiction on the park. She merely suggested that they put that rule into affect.. Now if they guy with the disease has his dog attacked over a toy would he be singing the same tune?? That rule makes so much sense.. Especially with larger breeds. I would not want to be the one to break up a fight between a pit and a doberman would you??? Whats wrong with people??? MORONS

I feel so bad for her. She does all this good and some losers who just got annoyed about one petty thing can't just get over it (the toys)? They wouldn't HAVE that park if not for her, according to what you said. They want her to do all the work but then when there is ONE thing they don't like, they gripe like 8 year olds in the schoolyard and want their "playmate" banned???? Then they spread malicious lies all b/c they are annoyed she "took over" the park? HOW OLD ARE WE????? I don't know her or either side personally but to me, it seems pretty clear what happened here. The writing is on the wall. Sometimes people who are very active and do so much good get accused of being too bossy and those they help turn on them. I have seen it in my own life.
This is absolutely ridiculous and these people disputing her need to get a life. This makes me so angry! That poor lady.
