Question about PCOS

Anyone familiar with PCOS? I just got back from my Endocrinologist apt - and she mentioned getting tested for PCOS - She explained everything to me but unless you're in the medical field - It's still confusing.
Any advise???Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Question about PCOS

Hi! I've had PCOS since my late teens. When I was finally diagnosed I learned a lot at this website: www.pcosupport.org. Definitely check out their message boards - I used to be very active there & the ladies were a phenomenal source of support. GL! Chat Icon

ITA. I also use www.soulcysters.net (I think that's the site). There are different degrees of PCOS. Some people go on metformin (if needed, and they start to ovulate on their own and their cycles become regular and they have no issues w/ TTC, others (myself included) need medical assistance. I've seen people take metformin and get PG from that alone, others take metformin and clomid and get PG, others through IUI, and yet others through IVF. I'm starting my first IVF cycle this weekend- none of the other things worked for me. Please FM me if you have any questions!!! Chat Icon Good luck to you!

you should also ask for a pelvic sonogram. PCOS does come up on bloodwork because really it is an insulin disorder which then produces too much of the reproductive hormones, which causes the cysts. my doctor thougt PCOS was a possibility for me, but after bloodwork and the sonogram it was ruled out. but the sonogram revealed a huge ovarian cyst which was then surgically removed.

GOOD LUCK!

ITA! My PCOS has been confirmed (repeatedly) via both bloodwork & pelvic sonos. I think that it's very important to make sure that they do both before diagnosing. You should also request the 3-hour fasting glucose tolerance test (with the orange drink)...some docs will only check your glucose with a standard blood test, but my former RE/PCOS specialist told me that in order to properly diagnose insulin resistance the 3-hour fasting test is needed. HTH!

Re: Question about PCOS

I had bloodwork and a pelvic/transvaginal sono which confirmed I have PCOS. I found those sites some of the girls mentioned to be very helpful. GL!! Chat Icon
