I think my dogs have fleas! Help
I noticed a little bug on my dogs belly this morning..I took it and put it in a zip lock bag so that I can bring it to the vet and show them later. I have never had this problem before..but, I guess now that we own a home and the dogs are always outside in the yard..
Anyway, if my older dog has them, the puppy probably does too.I only saw one on my older dog and none that I could see on the little one. My hubby said he saw a small bug on the wee wee pad this morning too.. UGH..... I have an appointment to bring my older dog in tonight.. they can't take both dogs tonight.
He sleeps in our bed!! What do I do?

Well at the very least, I would clean your bedding and until you know what it was, not let your dog sleep in the bed with you.
I guess once you find out if it was a flea or not you should call an exterminator?
I'm not very familiar, we haven't had this problem.
Do you put some sort of flea and tick repellent on the dogs? If not, I would, that will help.

Re: I think my dogs have fleas! Help
I have had fleas on my dogs. Go the vet asap and he will check them and put them on Frontline. It will kill the fleas. If you are not opposed to the product, it works great and you won't get any infestations if you use the product monthly.
For me, I bought a flea comb and would pick the fleas off my dog and then drown the fleas to kill them (read this online). You take a clear container, fill it with water and some dish detergent (to add weight to teh water) and brush the dog with the comb, esp brush over an area you actually see a bug, and then you immediately dip the comb into the soapy water. You swish it around and you will see the flea come off the comb and drown! Gross.
But this, in addition to using Frontline year round, prevented me from getting an infestation. Get to a vet and you can take care of this asap, before hte fleas reproduce too much (if they are fleas).
In addition, I find it odd that you saw one on the wee wee pad and you picked one off. They usually move very fast and are hard to get off without a flea comb. It may not be fleas, so get to a vet.

Honestly, we did all that when we first saw the fleas. But the truth is, if you start using Frontline tonight if it's fleas, it will really start to work and even if some fleas already laid eggs, they will just jump back on the dogs and get killed. These products work really really great.
I don't worry about fleas anymore, b/c my dogs and my home is proof that the product does work. Years ago, before these products, our cats growing up got fleas from ONE small kitten with a flea on it, and the house was infested. It took my mom almost 2 years to get rid of them, and she had to rip up all her rugs, etc to succeed.
These products really prevent huge infestations like in the olden days.
Update! The vet took a look at the little bugger that I had taken off my older dog, was indeed a flea.. she checked him and there was none on him! She said I must have caught it just in time.. I purchased Front line for both of my babies and applied the Frontline to them last night as soon as I got home from the vet.

Ok, well, now you know. You do need to consistently apply it every month b/c you did have the fleas in your home and they technically could have dropped eggs already. So make sure you mark it in your calendar each month, and reapply. It will work, I promise!

Oh and buy a flea comb so if you do see any live ones, you can kill them like I told you do above.
Glad I could help. I was panic stricken when I saw fleas too on my dog, but it all worked out.
