Who's using bumpers in the crib?

I was just decorating the nursery and DH told me that bumpers are unsafe, so we looked online and everything says- NOTHING in the crib not even a bumper because it increases the risk of SIDS Chat Icon But I dont want my little ones limbs to get stuck between the rails..?? What are your opinions on this?

Re: Who's using bumpers in the crib?

i am until he starts moving all over. i'm not worried about his limbs in the slats--they're made to code and have to be a certain width apart.

when he starts moving during his sleep i'll reassess what i think and then either leave them in or take them out

Having the bumpers up defiitely helped when DD started standing and couldnt really get down yet. She would have bumped her head very hard had they not been there...

My DS is almost 8 months and I have never used them. I am not going to use them with this baby either.

Re: Who's using bumpers in the crib?

not using them....

in the first 6 mo's, there's a sids risk if the baby rolls too close to them (and those sleep positioners are additional sids risks).

later on, when the baby stands, the bumper can be used to help climb out of the crib... another Chat Icon

so we're avoiding them altogether... (at best we'd consider a breathable bumper if crouton ends up rolling towards the railings on a regular basis....)

I have them in her crib but plan on putting DD in one of those sleeping systems so she can't rollover during her sleep to avoid SIDS. I also plan on using the same sleep system in her bassinet for the first three months.

Re: Who's using bumpers in the crib?

DD has bumpers in her crib but she can't roll over yet. Once she does I will probably put the breathable ones in. We had a sleep positioner in her bassinet and it worked out well. In her crib though she skoots down and her head wound up in the middle of the positioner so we got rid of it.

Re: Who's using bumpers in the crib?

I have the bumpers in the crib as of right now, still not sure myself if I should leave them or take them out. I purchased the angelcare monitor and I have a sleep positioner that has "easy" breathe or some kind of mesh on it. Im paranoid with this whole SIDS thing. I really dont know for sure which is the best method or not. I do know that the space between the rails are all according to some safety code, so I wouldnt worry about that too much.

I've used them with DD since she was born. She's 2&1/2 and still has them in there.

DS is 13 months and ours are still in the crib. They aren't terribly thick DS would be very black and blue without them.
