everyone is different; my opinion is:

No, you don't need one
They only use it for a short time - maybe 6 weeks if that

Yes, you can start the baby out in the crib right away

for me, its $$ that could be better spent

Respectly, I totally disagree.

We used ours for 3+ months and DS could have still fit in it when we transitioned him to the crib.

It was great to have him in the room with us at first and I didn't even breastfeed!

I agree. My son is almost 3 months old and he is still in his bassinet right next to our bed. Even though he has his own nursery with a crib, I couldn't imagine waking up in the middle of the night every 3 hours, getting out of bed, and going into the nursery to feed him. It's so convenient having him right next to me. Also, as other posters said, it's much cozier and compact that a PNP.

Re: Did you get a bassinet?

Someone lent me a gorgeous toile bassinet that looked so pretty. However, DS was in there his first night home and none of us slept at all.

He was such a peanut his crib seemed so big and vast. I put him in the crib in his own room, but he slept in a Moses basket for a few months. He was cozy and got used to being in his crib and own room.

The Moses basket was great to carry him around and let him nap downstairs when he was a newborn.

Re: Did you get a bassinet?

I don't think you need one. We're using a family heirloom...it's about 100yrs old. DH's grandfather and father were in it...as well as DH (the only one of his 6 siblings). So for me, it was more the sentimental value than the necessity.

I plan on putting Chat Icon in his crib from day 1, I see no need for it. If anything, a PNP will work fineChat Icon

Re: Did you get a bassinet?

some people use the pack and play insteadof the bassinet.

We registered for a bassinet bc my bedroom is small and the PNP would take up more room than the bassinet.

Re: Did you get a bassinet?

We had a bassinet that my son grew out of VERY quickly (less than a month). Then we got one of those small pac and plays and LOVED it!

Re: Did you get a bassinet?

We have a family bassinet. I used it for the first 12 weeks then we transitioned to the crib. I breastfed and found that it was easier in the beginning to have the baby right next to me in the bassinet rather than in the crib so that at night, I could take her out, feed her, and put her back to bed quickly and easily. I was also too nervous to have her in another room in the beginning so it helped to be able to look over at her sleeping and know she was fine! We had to move her out at 12 weeks because she was active and would rock the bassinet when she woke up and got excited, but I would have kept her in with us for a bit longer.

Re: Did you get a bassinet?

We are getting the Amrs Reach co-sleeper, like a pack n play bassient that attaches to the side of the bed. The original one can hold the baby up unitl about 1 year. We would like the baby to sleep with us, and breastfeeding will be easier with the baby right next to me.

We will definitely be getting a bassinet.
The bssinet will stay in our bedroom and than
we'll keep the PNP downstairs.

Re: Did you get a bassinet?

we have a pnp with bassinet feature and it is set up next to our bed. it makes breastfeeding 100 times easier because i don't have to get up out of bed every two hours. we only have a 2 bedroom apartment so i didn't want to get ANYTHING uneccesary, but i consider this a must.

dd is six weeks old. she naps in her crib so that she will beused to it when we are ready to move her in there at night.

I have the bassinet in my room. I love having him in there, it is so much easier at night. I have a PNP downstairs. I love having it down there. He sleeps in the bassinet part during the day and I can use the changing table on it instead of bringing him upstairs.

Re: Did you get a bassinet?

Originally, I didn't want one. My sister is going to give me hers, since my nephew hated it. So we'll have the baby in the bassinet for the first few months.
