Hello, Im going to be joining you all here. I am a very regular poster in hiding for the time being and I have a few questions. So basically what CAN'T I do? And can I have diet coke? I know stupid questions but I just dont know. I have stalked this board and read so much that I forgot it all. TIA.

Re: The do's and don'ts
Congratulations!!! And welcome!!
This site is very helpful: FDA Pregnancy site It lists all about food safety and I like it better than "opinion" sites.
I also find this site helpful for symptoms and terms and tips on excercsie and health and info on fetal development: American Pregnancy Org
The basics: no diet coke because of the aspartame, limit caffeine to 300mg or less/day (I drank none for first 20 weeks), no unpasteurized cheeses, no sushi, no alcohol, no cold cuts (unless you heat them to steaming).

Re: The do's and don'ts
Congratulations!!!!!
I am still a bit lost when it comes to the dos and don'ts except for the very obvious ones like no boozing and smoking!
I would venture to say that diet coke is a no-no because of the sweetener, I still have a regular fountain coke from time to time. Lemonade is my new best friend. The citrus helps with my morning sickness.

Re: The do's and don'ts
Honestly, a lot of girls get carried away with the whole "don't do this" lists and what not.
Everything in moderation, that is the key.
If once a week, a diet coke makes your day, have it.
If there is nothing to eat but turkey cold cuts, eat them, just try to eat them from reputable places and not every single day.
A hot dog, is not going to hurt the baby, it is summer, eat one.
A glass of wine in your 2nd or 3rd trimester is not going to make your baby an alcoholic.
a piece of fresh mozzarella is delicious, do not deprive yourself.
And for god sakes, cookie dough ice cream is as good as it gets!!!
congrats!

congrats!!!
I really think it depends on your doc. Mine is very conservative, I have not had sushi, hot dogs, cold cuts, diet soda, lamb, fresh mozz, alcohol, deli salads, caffeine, tuna hmmm can't think of anything else right now. best thing to do is try to get a list from your doc asap.

DO what your doctor tells you. every doctor is different.
DON'T do what other people tell you is okay or not okay. they are not your doctor.
that's the rule i live by.

Re: The do's and don'ts
Carville was the Democratic strategist for Bill Clinton's campaign that got him elected. Mary Matalin pretty much held the same position for George H.W. Bush when he and Clinton ran against each other. Completely opposite political affiliations, but that aside, they ended up getting married - go figure.
