You know how LI has those SUPER supermarkets...
where they have cafes in them, a whole aisle of gift cards, a separate bakery section with every bread imaginable... aisles that you can twirl around in and not bump into someone?
Some even have self checkouts?

Awwwwww, you make our supermarkets sound like a magical fairy land. Next time I'm in my SUPER Stop & Shop I'll have to wear my tiara with my finest jewels and think of you!! Chat Icon

King Kullen in Valley Stream has one.

I was there the other day... I want to live in that King Kullen. It's nicer than my apt.

Ugh. Insane!

I had these problems at Hofstra. It would sometimes take an HOUR to find parking.

I was in a small lot (near the law school for people who know) and I was waiting in a small area facing North, there was another truck facing South. I am pretty sure the truck was there first. There was a car pulling out, and I put my blinker on, but then I realied the truck was there first, so I stopped, but he waved me into the spot and then actually drove away. I pulled into the spot. The car that was behind the truck comes and pulls directly in back of where I aprk, waits for me (about 5 minutes while I was getting my stuff together for class), and when i get out of the car he says "You know, this was my spot" I said "I didn't know, the other guy waved me in" "well it was my spot" "Sorry. What do you want me to do" "nothing, don't worry" "Erm. Good Luck!"

he waited...just to accost me.

don't even get me start on Hofstra's parking lots... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

this must be a supermarket in queens. The land of minimal parkingChat Icon

and crappy supermarkets

Just curious...what's so "crappy" about the supermarkets in Queens as opposed to the ones in the island...

Curious minds want to know...

we don't have anything like that.

At least not near me... the aisles are small, cramped and there really isn't much of a selection for ANYTHING.

Most of the time, you can't even bring the shopping cart 5 feet from the store.

NOT True. There is one just like this.

The Stop and Shop on Union Turnpike is AMAHZING. It has a Starbucks and a floarl dept, 2 long asiles of cards.

It looks like supermarket sweep!

I was going to mention this also - its the closest thing we have to the LI stores!

ETA: When it opened it was the talk of the town. Everywhere I went people kept asking if I had gone there yet. . . too funny how excited everyone got.

Re: Parking lot etiquette

So, the supermarket parking lot by me is a nightmare during certain times and if I wasn't already in the car, on my way home, I would NEVER try to park there.

So as we're all circling around the lot like sharks, searching for our prey (parking) when I spot this chick leaving the supermarket and I start to stalk.

I sit for a few minutes with my directional on, claiming my spot... when this OTHER chick, who just illegally parked and started heading into the store, sees the woman walking to her car and asks if she's leaving.... chick #1 says yes and chick #2 starts heading back towards her car... she's about to get into the driver's seat

when she sees me...

She looks at me, then at chick #1 (who is SLOWLY putting her groceries into her car) looks at me again and then does this overly dramatic sigh/w tf thing and then closes her door, locks it, and starts walking (very ANGRILY) into the store.

I hear her say something to me so I roll my window down and ask 'excuse me?'

she says (very obnoxiously)
'ENJOY YOUR PARKING SPOT!!!'

why thank you! how nice of you... I will.

Can someone please tell me WHHHHHHHHHHHHHY this witch is speaking to me as if I did something to her?

SHE did not see ME... not the other way around...

I got over it... eventually parked and walked into the store. As I passed her in one of the aisles, I whispered to her..

'still enjoying my parking spot btw'

hey- I'm not perfect...

People seem to be getting ruder and ruder everyday. The worst part is even people who are generally good people are starting to act more unfriendly because of it. it seems like common courtesies are going out the window. Society is forgetting about culturalism and becoming more individualistic. Just plain sucks really.
When talking about teenagers, i see this lack of disrespect the most from them. I blame this rap crap music and television. Where acting like a thug is cool.

Re: Parking lot etiquette

I hate people like that who have parking lot road rage! Chat Icon

Some old guy once pulled up behind me and DH as we parked and waited for us to get out of the car so he could yell at us for taking his spot - as though we can magically see around corners and know that he saw the spot from the NEXT AISLE OVER and somehow telepathically called dibs on it.

It always amazes me how angry people can get over something that's really just an inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. Chat Icon

I am in Queens and personally I don't care much if there is a cafe at the super market or not(never even thought about that), as long as it's clean, all I want to do is run in and run out as soon as I can, but that's a really funny story,LOL. some people are just craaazyyyy!!!Chat Icon and will go out of their way to be mean.
