Gasoline Question?

How do you know if you need that middle or high gas? I think they told me I need the good stuff but how do I know I really do? Will anything happen if i get the cheaper stuff?

Re: Gasoline Question?

All I suggest is that if you do change octane, make sure that you fill it up with the different octane when your tank is EMPTY. Mixing it sometimes makes the car run funny.

We have owned/own benz, bmw, etc. and we've only used 87 octane.

Re: Gasoline Question?

The manual that comes with the car will tell you which gas to use.

Re: Gasoline Question?

Your owners manual should tell you which one to use.

Yea, I figured, I just thought there was a general rule to this. With prices so high just thought someone might have some wisdom to share .Chat Icon

Most cars can take regular unless you have a high compression engine like a sports car or luxury car......

Re: Gasoline Question?

i think that some car manufacturers are saying that cars that should take premium can function with regular. Just thought i would throw that out there..I've been car shopping and I see the trend.

what kind of car do you have?

Re: Gasoline Question?

I drive an Acura MDX. When I leased the car, we asked the salesman at the dealer what they use on the cars they use for test drives. He said to use regular, so that is what we use!

I would stick to the middle one- I notice a HUGE difference in my MB when my DH put in regular by accident

I get much better gas mileage when I use 89 or above

Re: Gasoline Question?

As the wife of a BMW engineer, I would not make a habit using a lesser octane. I know firsthand that if your car starts having problems, they will check your gas and see what you are using. It could lead to your warranty being flagged. You will also get poorer MPG with cheaper gas. I would say fill up once with 87 but go right back to using higher octane Chat Icon.
