shower gift??
hello preggos just visiting again!!
DH's cousins shower is in over a month. i received the invite 3 weeks ago. ALLLLL of the good registry items are gone already and she had about 150 items between the three of them!! this is her first baby and they arent finding out the sex
soo heres my question. what are some things you would need and/or like to get that you wouldnt have registered for?? is it ok if i get her a diaper cake or a gift basket being that all of the important stuff is already gone?? im the crafty type so i was thinking of making a basket or a diaper cake maybe to make it more unique... but if these ideas suk what else would you suggest?
TIA!

Re: shower gift??
I think the basket or diaper cake are great ideas - she is definately going to need the stuff!!!
Or if you like crocheting or knitting, baby blankets are pretty quick and homemade gifts are always a hit

Re: shower gift??
you could get her a large pile of onsies and PJ's (in different sizes), bibs, socks, mittens, burp cloths, and receiving blankets.....
a new mom can never have too many of those

that was originally what i was going to do and stuff it into either a diaper bag or like a cute basket. what do you girls think?? also i was worried cause i am going to have to buy assorted like yellows and greens and i figure after she has the baby she willl prefer gender specific colors - should i not really worry about that?? also i thought that may be hard and time consuming to go through at a shower so maybe it wouldnt get the wow factor that it would in another setting? i know im totally overthinking this but im very crazy when it comes to gifting!!

Re: shower gift??
I had a lot of people get me very nice gifts that were off the registry because they said the good registry gifts were gone. They were very generous and nice but now I have lots of "extras" and not all the essentials. I had a friend make up a basket of lots of the "little" things on my registry and it was so helpful and I really appreciated it! She put in my bottle brush cleaner, baby washes, sponges, onesies, detergent, dryer sheets, etc.

A basket of "goodies". Baby toys, baby blankets, onesies, bibs, pacifiers, a good book for the first year with baby, etc. I LOVE getting baskets with all kinds of little treats in there!!

Re: shower gift??
A basket with the little things off the registry is a great gift! People didn't buy them for me b/c to them that stuff didn't feel like a "gift", but it adds up!
You could also make a bouquet or egg carton with baby socks in it to add onto the git. The bouquet is adorable! Like these:
(there are so many ways to decorate this)
At my shower one person bought me a nice set of PJs to wear at the hospital. I thought this was such a thoughtful gift! You could also make a breastfeeding or formula feeding supplies basket if you know what she intends to do.

Re: shower gift??
please get her her small things off of the registry! i don't know why people don't think they're important because they're not a cute big item, but they are the things you NEED!!
i would LOVE a basket of my small items--it would mean much more to me than a diaper cake which looks pretty, but isn't practical. i have enough diapers because both grandmas have been buying them. a new mom needs the bottle cleaners, extra nipples, rectal thermometer, etc much more than a sock tree or diaper cake IMO.
she will WANT and LOVE the smaller items from her registry--TRUST ME!!!! no one will think it's cheap if you buy all the $2-$3 items and wrap them up pretty and she will really appreciate it!!!

Re: shower gift??
Even though the "big" and/or "good" stuff is bought from her registry I'm sure there are a million little things that no one got her. Those are the items that will probably be most useful for her (ie, thermometer, diaper cream, baby wipes, brush set, bottles, teethers, toys, etc).
I think your best bet is to get a nice wicker basket like this:
Because they are great for storage, and just fill it with all the little, essential gifts.
As I constantly registry peek I see the larger ticket items fly off my registry but I know these smaller items which I feel just as important are left behind.

Re: shower gift??
I once saw a pregnant mom get a beach pail with swim diapers, a bathing suit, suntan lotion, a beach hat and towel all in the beach pail. It stuck in my head as being such a cute idea and very different.

Re: shower gift??
Two of the best best gifts I got were gift baskets filled with lots of goodies. These were both from experience mom's who new what I needed.
One was a a small laundry basket filled with: onsies in 3 different sizes receiving blanket wipes diapers deft detergent baby stain remover hangars travel items for the diaper bag
Another was a basket filled with feeding items: dishwasher baskets bottle brushes gerber spoons bottles/liners nipples pacifiers baby food
Besides looking great, these baskets were so much fun to go through once I got home. It was like opening more presents.
Edited for spelling.

this is a great idea and is what i usually do for my friends. I'm not a fan of the diaper cakes, i feel like the diapers are dirty once they've been touched and out in the open

That's a great idea! Someone got me a gift certificate for a package at Kiddie Kandids for my shower. Something I never would have thought of, but I loved it!!

I agree...either of these baskets would be perfect for a new mom!
Some things to add...from experience:
Onesies...if you get the white ones from Carters she can return them without a receipt for other sizes or store credit. I am assuming her due date is very soon...my son was May and this is what I found helpful - 1 set - newborn side snap white tops 1 set - 3 month side snap white tops 1 set - newborn white short sleeve onesie 1 set - 3 month white s/s onesie
Wipes - get the sensitive ones for the beginning unless she has registered for a specific one.
Baby Stain remover - OXY makes a great one for baby
I agree with the previous posters....try to clean up a lot of the little things from her registry and if you can center it around a theme (bath, feeding, etc.) that would be creative!
