Re: Toxic Plastic

I could never use glass. My husband breaks things as it is! Chat Icon Not to mention when the baby gets older, i'm sure there are bound to be a few bottles to drop on the floor.

I'll have to check out the plastic ones that are okay to use i suppose...

I used the Playtex drop-ins which are also safe.

I certainly don't think I was being hysterical. I was just sharing an interesting article. I wasn't even thinking about baby bottles but the water bottle that I (and a LOT) of people use all the time.

Re: Toxic Plastic

Yes I researched this yesterday and decided to use the playtex drop-ins. I'm just not too comfortable using glass around the baby- I could totally see myself dropping a bottle on him and that would just not be good!! Also, born-free is BPA free and I'm sure there will be a lot more coming out in the near future in light of this information.

This has been around for awhile now. Dr. Brown's is coming out with BPA Free in May or June.

glass bottles are actually more durable than you think... I dropped mine a few times and it did not break at all... we use both glass and plastic (bpa free) born free bottles and love them...

Sorry, I wasn't saying that you were being hysterical. My apologies if it came across that way. I was generalizing. It just seems that from all the threads on the whole plastic controversy lately, it seems like some people are going into panicmode from it. Chat Icon

Born Free bottles are BPA free. That is what we are getting.

Sigg water bottles are also BPA free - that is what DH and I take to the gym.

There are other posts on this board about this and many, many articles. California has tried to get it banned in the US but has not yet succeeded.

Re: Toxic Plastic

we registered for glass... my theory is that BPA and pthalates are what they already suspect are toxic.... but what will be in the news tomorrow?

glass is perfectly inert.... yay glass! We'll deal with the possible breakage issue...
My only concern now is the nipple..... so I have to do more homework Chat Icon

I am a total spaz and there is no way I trust myself with glass bottles. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon We registered for the Born Free bottles safe and I also registered for the Playtex Drop Ins which I believe are safe too but I want to double check that and make sure. I believe the chemicals they are talking about are only in hard plastics so the drop ins should be okay.

So scary but I try to take everything with a grain of salt. I look at my mom and the things they did with us growing up (I was born in 1975) and sometimes I wonder how we survived!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Our parents did so many things when we were babies that now would be considered taboo. Sleeping on our tummies with blankets, giving us pacifiers with honey on them, leaving the hospital carrying me in her lap and NO carseat. Anyway, point is I try to not worry about every little thing. I'm sure my baby will be fine and safe and I will always do everything in my power to ensure that but I don't want to become a crazy person. Know what I mean? Chat Icon
