why ohh why??
Dear bride to be,
Why did you have to book your Friday night ceremony on the south shore of LI and your reception up in Westchester? With the other 6 weddings that we are invited to this year, we do not have the money to stay at a hotel. Therefor I can not have a few drinks with my closest friends to celebrate your nuptuals because I have to drive home. This in no way means I love you any less but c'mon now....
Thank you.

Re: why ohh why??
that's quite a hike between the ceremony and reception....
I never understood that set-up. our church and hall were purposefully very close to each other.... about 5 min.

I agree. I bet a lot of people might skip the Church.

Re: why ohh why??
that definately is a strange combo. I do agree that a lot (unless close to either party) will skip the church & just go straight to the reception.

i guess i could understand if the bride really wanted her reception at the place in westchester, but either she or the groom also had strong ties to the LI church... but then i would think that she should expect that the majority of the guests will miss the actual ceremony. sad, but it shouldn't come as a surprise - especially given that it's on a friday!

Wow, that is a timely distance between the two.
I'm assuming, or at least hoping, they don't expect most to attend church.

I'm willing to place a bet that she wasn't thinking of you when she made the arrangements...
just a shot in the dark.
and I'm not saying that to be snarky. You know how it is when you are planning your wedding. (most of the time) all about ME mentality.

On a friday night That is insane traveling......
Though my cousin thought it was a fabulous idea to have his church in South Jersey and his reception at the Westbury Manor
THAT was a fun trip

DH and i took the day off and spent the nite at the hotel in NJ---but either way it still suucked going to the church---and then hauling assss to NJ to get ready at the hotel as fast as possible to make the shuttle to the reception.

T - that sucks plain and simple.
And yes, I think there should have been SOME consideration by the bride for her guests. Asking 100+ people to drive from LI on a Friday night up to Westchester is excessive.

But seriously, this is extreme. This goes beyond considering one couple. I suspect there will be MANY guests having to drive from LI up to Westchester. The bride or groom is apparently from LI (otherwise why else would they pick a church on LI and not Westchester) so I'm guessing a good number of guests are too.

Re: why ohh why??
That's so incredibly rude!!! It's one thing to want to have "the perfect day" but it's terrible to not take any of your guests into consideration when making arrangements like that. These are supposed to be the bride and groom's closest family and friends; it's absurd to ask them to travel so far between the ceremony and reception.

the groom's family is very involved with the church and I completely understand why they chose this one. and the bride just fell in love with the hall. it just stinks that we can't stay and have to drive...
