Re: "The Buisness of Being Born"
I just saw this. I've done alot of research on childbirth and "routine interventions," so none of it was really new to me, but I thought they did a great job with the documentary and the birth scenes were incredible.
I definately reccomend it to anyone who wants to have a better birth experience. I will say that my hospital birth experience with the Midwives at Stony Brook was very good. So I do think it is possible to have a low-intervention birth at a hospital, as long as it is they right hospital and you are with the right health care professional.

Re: "The Buisness of Being Born"
I sat there just through the whole show. I found it fascinating. I had no idea about some of the stuff they talked about. I wish/hope everybody who is pg, or planning to get pg will watch it. Even if you're prohospital or promidwife it gives some great facts and yes the birth scene's are AMAZING! It really is a great movie.

Re: "The Buisness of Being Born"
I never saw my c-section as negative, until I watched this.
I went to my OB talking about how I wanted to go natural...I was ignored and during my appts was told that it is unnecessary to go natural.
Then, I wasn't even late yet, baby measured big, no labor signs, schedules a c-section...I questioned it and tried to see if there were alternatives...
I was walking the streets like a nut up until the scheduled date, trying to make something happen.
After seeing this, I should have trusted my body, I felt totally pushed into going along with everything.

I am sorry Janice.
I have another friend who feels the same way. She switched Drs and is now using a midwife.
It really is sad, how giving birth has become a business.
I am thankful we have all this technology and medical interventions for emergencies, but sometimes it is just not necessary in certain situations.

I'm so sorry. This happened to my cousin -- doctor thought "big baby" scheduled her c-section -- her baby was only 6 lbs 5 oz when he was delivered. I hope you will look into VBAC (there is a lot of misinformation out there on VBACs) if you would like to try a vaginal birth next time.
You can get the movie from Netflix.

You can rent it from most videao stores or if you have netflicks you can watch it online or rent it. That's what I did. It's not all promidwife and con hospital, but it does make you look at things in another way. The facts are mind blowing.....
