What Would You Do?

I am feeling really torn about what my next step should be in fertility treatments. I have done 1 natural IUI, 2 rounds of clomid/IUI, and 1 round of Follistim/IUI. This month I am on a forced break because of ovarian cysts from the Follistim but hope to do a natural IUI in the next few days. If this month doesn't work out, I am debating about whether to do another round of Follistim/IUI or just go to IVF. In case you are wondering, DH and I are unexplained IF and insurance will cover IVF for us. TIA!

If I were you, I'd go right to IVF. You've done 3 (and maybe 4) IUIs with no success. That's enough, IMO.

Lots of luck to you! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: What Would You Do?

It's definitely a personal choice. I had 7 iui's all of which did not work then moved on to IVF. I do know someone who got a BFP on their 7th iui. Having insurance that covers IVF definitely makes things easier for you. I think you will know deep inside when you are ready for IVF. good luck in your decision.

Re: What Would You Do?

If I had insurance that paid for it, I would definatley go forward with the IVF. Especially since the changes are better.

Re: What Would You Do?

Thanks for your responses. Most of you seem to think that IVF is the way to go. I spoke to DH about it last night and he is not crazy about the idea of IVF. I have mixed feelings too. I guess we will know in our hearts when the time is right to take out the "big gun" to beat our IF. Part of me wants to wait as long as possible to do IVF because I know it's the final weapon against IF and if it doesn't work there is pretty much nothing more that doctors can do for us. Sorry if this sounds pessimistic. Thanks again ladies.

Re: What Would You Do?

I would move to IVF since you have the coverage and since you have tried IUI's with meds already. The way I looked at it and eventually made the decision to move on was how much I was willing to put my mind and body through. To me, if I continued to do IUI's and meds, that could be many cycles of meds messing me up, monitoring, and then the emotional drain of a failed cycle month after month(we really had a very small chance of concieving with IUI so it was a little different for us). After looking at IVF and what it entailed I realized it was only going to be two really rough weeks with a MUCH greater chance of success. We were lucky on our first cycle so it's easy for me to say it was the best decision we made, but we also have 11 frozen embryos so if we hadn't been successful we would have moved onto FET's which are much less stressful on the body.

It's a tough decision and something you and your DH have to be ready to get into together (it isn't a walk in the park, but it's not impossible either). You're very lucky to have the coverage so maybe take a few more cycles to give yourself the time to get comfortable with the decison (and by that time hopefully you won't need IVFChat Icon )
