after 9/11 DH was laid off and unemployed for a year! 3 months into it we decided that we would move to another city, so if we had stay, he had an offer at 9 or 10 months, but we were able to hold out for the other city.

I took 2 months off in the summer if that counts. Not sure I'd call it really unemployed since I took the time off & didn't look for a job.

DH is union so he takes furlough. Last year was 10 weeks off.

I haven't been unemployed unintentionally. I even tried to take time off between projects when I was freelancing, but people were begging me.

FH was unemployed 18mos out of a 2 year period. He got laid off, then had a contract gig which expired, then got laid off again (he was working in finance -mortgages!) and then got fired

Fortunately he's been at his current job for close to a year so

but depending on the industry it is NOT easy to find another job.

I took 4 months off to write my master's thesis. Other than that I was always employed starting in high school until I became a SAHM.

DH has been working since middle school. He had a trading card business with 2 friends in middle school and high school, he worked several jobs and internships during college and has always had a job since graduating. And he still has the trading card business on the side.
