I am If you get too much money back then you are giving the gov't your money throughout the year for free. with rising food and gas costs, wouldn't you want that money in your weekly paycheck?
ITA, but my DH has M4 and I have M3 and we still get more than the poll back. I am scared to go higher than that, since we pay less in mortage interest every year.

Technically, yes, you would ideally want $0 for your return. However, most people see it as "extra" money, and use the refund as sort of a short-term savings account. An extra $100 a week you don't notice, but an extra $5000 at the end of the year is a big chunk of money.
normally that would be true for me but last year we had to pay for a wedding, so this year i am getting almost nothing back, but i don't mind at all.

Re: How much are you getting back?
We're getting back more than the poll. I know that I would not even notice the extra money in my paycheck and I would most likely not save it throughout the year which is why I give the government an interest-free loan every year. Now that we have DD our expenses have gone up so I changed my withholding to compensate. Maybe we'll break even next year.

not much- I adjusted my with holdings
Same. We get more in our paychecks year roung and less back at the end. No need to give the govt an interest free loan
