Long periods
So, to add to my long cycles, I also get long periods- like 6 to 9 days sometimes. I know, I am a lucky, lucky girl.
I have always had this-- even before BC, so I am not concerned. But, the last two days (CD 7 & 8), my period has been heavier and I have full on cramps! W T F!! And, my boobs are sore again.
It's like I had PMS, then "Period Lite" feeling ok with a very light flow. And now, just to make sure my hormones get the most of me, full on "Bad Period".
Every month off the damn pill is like a new adventure.
I think I am just venting here, but does this happen to anyone else?

Re: Long periods
Hi Randi,
Each month I've been off the pill so far my symptoms just seem to have gotten so much stronger, it's almost like while I was on the pill for so many years all my symptoms, especially the cramps were masked. A couple of months ago I had such terrible cramps I went home early from work and had to take pain medication to relieve the pain. Usually they are tolerable but over the past few months off the pill I have such heavy flow and cramps the whole time plus really sore boobs. For me it's usally 4 days but this month I was PMS'ing a whole week prior! I just got AF today so I hope it's not as bad this month.

Re: Long periods
This happened to me. I have a history of long periods. I was put on the pill when I was 15 because of it. This past summer I started getting my period for up to 14 days!! It was terrible. I went to the OB and they sent me for some tests. I had blood work done. I had an internal sonogram to look for polyps, fibroids, or cysts. I also had a biopsy because uterine cancer runs in my family. The doctor swore that he would find cysts or fibroids, which he believed were bursting each month while mimicked a period. But, after all of that testing, it was determined that I just have long periods and there was nothing wrong at all. So, he took me off the pill to see how my periods were. Surprisingly, they only lasted about 3-4 days!! WAHOO!! I was in heaven. At that time, DH and I decided to TTC and I got my BFP 5 months later.
I am, in no way, saying that you have cysts, fibroids, or polyps. I'm just sharing my experience. I am one to know that long periods just happen sometimes.....and are unexplained. But, maybe it's worth a talk with your doctor. If you are TTC, then it is good to have it checked out anyway.

Well, if I still have it by the end of the weekend, I will call my doc. But, I think I am ok-- it's usually that it just doesn't go away! And it starts and ends very light.
ETA-- I actually just spoke with my mom and she had the same exact thing as me-- long cycles (which I knew) and long periods... so, I am sure it's just *me*. Yippee.
