I think I will be joining you ladies...
Hi my name is Kate, and today I was just diagnosed with PCOS. I have been lurking over here for a while, DH and I have been TTC since August '06. I guess I will start with my story. Like I said we have been TTC since Aug. 06, I got pg in Nov, but had a m/c at 5 weeks. Dr. said just bad luck. I got pg again in May 07 but had a m/c at 8 weeks, again "bad luck" but my dr. ran tests for some immune disorders that could cause m/c's but everything came back normal. Well since July, my cycles have been irregular, ranging from 14 days to 54 days. After 6 months of this I went to the dr. So I got a blood test done and it showed PCOS. Looking back before ttc, I had long irregular cycles, but when we started ttc, they were fairly normal ranging from 26-30 days, and always getting a +opk, so I didn't think there was any problem. Is there such a thing as mild PCOS?? Since I do have a "normal cycle" occasionally? Anyway my dr. is going to do cycle day 3 testing, but also wants to start me on clomid for my next cycle, and estradiol and then progesterone. Is this normal protocol? Any info would be great. Thank you!

Re: I think I will be joining you ladies...
If you are insulin resistant, he may put you on metformin.
As for my protocol, I was on estradiol and progesterone during my IVF. But I think those who do IVF may have that protocol regardless if they have PCOS. I may be wrong though.
For more INfo about PCOS check out this website: www.soulcysters.com
For CD 3 Bloodwork check out this website:HOrmone Levels YOu can use it as a baromoter when you get your results from your doctor.
ETA: Your doctor may have not done all the tests for immune issues. Check out this website and go to Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Panel Millenova
ETA2: Are you going to a RE? If not, I suggest you go to one. Alot of doctors will prescribe clomid as if it is a cure for all. And if you have auto immune issues that may not be wise to do. Also, Clomid thins out the lining of the uterus if used for a prolonged period of time. Which is why I recommend you see a RE.
ETA3: YOu should also get a HSG done b/c if you have blocked tubes, clomid is not going to help you.
Good Luck!

Re: I think I will be joining you ladies...
Hi ...My RE classifies me as having "mild" PCOS and from what I understood- it is because I display some of the symptoms of PCOS but not all...I have irregular AF, annovulatory most months, many little follicles etc...I dont have large cysts, excessive facial hair, and my weight is just over normal etc....If you arent going to an RE, I definately would recommend it as I was far too comfortable with my Gyn. and unfortunately wasted 7 valuable months with him putting me on Clomid blindly without proper testing or monitoring with timed BD...After seeing an RE , I got pregnant with my DS on Clomid/IUI on try #3...The blood work for CD3 sounds right but I'm not sure why he would assume you need estradiol and progesterone before getting the results back first...Have they sent you for an HSG to make sure your tubes are clear ??? I wish you the best of luck and hope your stay here is really short !!!!

First off, welcome. Secondly, there are definitely degrees of PCOS. I would recommend that you se a RE who is a specialist in treating PCOS. The combination of Metformin (if you are insulin resistant) and Clomid works for a lot of ladies with PCOS.

Welcome and I hope your stay is short.
As far as PCOS, yes, I believe there is mild PCOS. And that protocol sounds pretty much on the money, although the doctor may start you on Metformin.
Lots of luck to you!
