We usually try to do the surprise thing in my family, but my mom is doing so much for me already and is soooo generous, so I didn't want her to have to stress about trying to surprise me somehow on top of everything else since I am not exactly little miss weekend brunch. She was on the fence b/c she wanted to surprise me and make it special, so I tried to make her feel less guilty about telling me by saying I would like some warning so I can make sure to look pretty.
Uuuummmmm except now I realize I will have to actually try to look pretty instead of being off the hook for looking more comfy b/c it was a surprise. Woops.

Mine was planned to be a surprise. But I snooped and found out when it was.
Also my DH stayed home that day to take me, so that would have given it away anyway.
But, I have to say, I liked that I was kept out of it. I mean there was some invite drama, but I was kept out of everything else.

I had a surprise bridal shower and protested against a surprise baby shower.
I won (no one wants to deal with a hormonal preggo) and even picked the date for the shower! May 18th.

That gave it away for me too - DH took off the day. He thought I'd believe we were to spend the day together for no apparent reason
I must agree though - I'm a control freak and I really enjoyed NOT being involved. My mom kept asking, "so, if you do have a shower, would you like...." I'd be helpful in my response but said "it's all yours - I'm out of it". God knows I have enough on my plate these days!
I had a couple of suggestions I made prior to the planning (like when I first knew I was pregnant). 1) I wanted a brunch and 2) I wanted everyone to bring a book for DC instead of wishing well items - now baby has a great book collection!

I haven't had my shower yet but my friend told me that she is going to plan it for April. I am going to fly my mom into town so she can attend so it isn't going to be a surprise. I honestly don't care that it is not a surprise, I am a total planner and wouldn't be able to handle the stress of not knowing.

I know the date but that's all I wanted to know..My mom is planning it from Florida and she is staying with me so she told me when but I said I don't want to know anything else. The rest will be a pleasant surprise

My mom told me the date & place BECAUSE she is ALSO planning a shower for my sister. This is a whole OTHER story though!!!!
There is a TON of controversary over the whole shower thing now.
They are planning the shower I want for my sister & mine is on a day & at a place that I am not happy with. The only 2 things I asked for for my shower were for it to be in May so it could be at home (my Mom's, my yard I didn;t care) As long as it was not in a place. My Mom ignored both requests just like she did for my bridal shower.
Right now I am not currently speaking to anyone in my family from some really stupid issues & don't even want a shower!!
