Re: Hand me clothes
I don't think it's mean of you. My BF was the same way - to her shopping for her DD's clothes was exciting and important to her.
I, on the other hand, am overwhelmed by all the shopping for clothes and the $$$ being spent on everything, so I'm taking her hand-me downs. She happens to have awesome taste, so I consider it a very good thing!

Re: Hand me clothes
Graciously accept and then give them to me please. Thanks!
J/K- A lot of people feel that way. Especially with their first born. I would just kindly say "Oh you should save them in case you have another" or "Are you sure there is no one else you know who might need them more than me".

Re: Hand me clothes
Ummmmmmmm well.... I wouldn't say b*itch.
But Maybe she has really nice clothes in different sizes and maybe you might get use out of some. I understand that this is your first baby, but these clothes may not be dingy hand me downs. I got bins and bins of hand me downs from my Aunts cousin and they were top notch. I got lots of botique dresses that cost a lot of $$$. The stuff I didn't use I gave to someone who did. If you REALLy don't want them then simply say......Thank you very much, but no thanks. I much rather you give them to someone who really needs them. I am sure will get a ton of stuff at my shower....

Re: Hand me clothes
I was like that in the beginning, but after they got older...I LOVED taking them, and still do. Taking hand me downs from friends is GREAT

Re: Hand me clothes
I would take them anyway- you can still shop for clothes yourself, and do laundry less frequently! You're not being a b!tch- but no one is saying that you can ONLY dress your baby in her hand me downs!

Re: Hand me clothes
I would definitely take them. Free is just that FREE. A baby is expensive enough and I bet you she probably has loads of stuff with tags still on it.
I know my sister had lots of stuff she wound up not being able to use with her 2 sons and passed the gender neutral stuff on to me.
Besides - why not just throw the used clothes in the wash - clean is clean, thats why we have laundry detergent!

Re: Hand me clothes
I would absolutely take them. Wash and use what is to your liking. Often when they are small the items barely get used more than a handful of times, before getting outgrown.
Like others said, you can always by more outfits. This way you have more "Everyday" clothes and less laundry.

Re: Hand me clothes
At first I was like this too (didn't get clothes, but got baby gear). I figured I wanted everything new and perfect, but now I see that you need so much stuff anyway, why not take a few things here and there?

Re: Hand me clothes
Hand me downs can be great. Most babies outgrow clothes so quickly that they are left good as new.

Re: Hand me clothes
No, you are not. I didn't want a lot of "used" clothing either. But, you might get more use out of bigger sized clothing. If they have any older sizes, you might be more in the market for that. I am changing my mind now too!
