friend? Why do you think this is? I know someone at my job, she's so lonely.. I feel bad for her.

do they suffer from depression?
did they relocate to the area and maybe not really know anyone?
how are they with co-workers?

No... I don't think I know anyone that doesn't have a single friend. It seems odd to be so isolated. Are you certain she is friendless? Maybe she is a party animal off hours??
If not.. then that is awful. Maybe you should try to befriend her!

I don't think so, she's almost 60. She socializes fine with others, I just feel for her. I hate to say this but she is too old for me to "hang" out with. She could be my grand mother.

Re: Do you know anyone that does not have one
i know one person who's entire life is her DH and she tries to have friends but when plans are made to try to hang out, she makes up excuses or fakes illness to stay home with him. seems odd to me that someone would alienate themselves from the world like that.

She is probabbly sweet and can share some amazing stories with you

I know a few girls like this too. These were the same ones who did this with their boyfriends in HS and then came crying to you after the boyfriend broke their heart. Then its like...excuse me where were you the past few months? NOW you need me!?!?

Agreed. I have several 'older' friends who are wonderful. My friend Marie is 65 and she is great - we go to movies, go to lunch and chat. She has led a really interesting life and I love talking with her.
Being her friend doesn't mean you have to become her best buddy. You can ask if she wants to sit with you on break - or ask about her life, the books she has been reading or whatnot. She will probably appreciate someone taking and interest in her. It's so easy to find connections with other human beings - and she may wind up being one of your most treasured friends!

Your grandmother? My mother's older than this woman and quite young, vivacious, and up on things.
Give the woman a chance if you want to befriend her.
How do you know she has NO friends?

Re: Do you know anyone that does not have one
I didn't have any friends when I was younger and believe me it was not my choice. People stopped having anything to do with me when I was in elementary school and became overweight. It was awful. Middle school was the saddest time of my life. It's no fun sitting alone at lunch and going on the school bus when you have to stand because everyone refuses to let you sit down.

Re: Do you know anyone that does not have one
This is so weird.. My Mom was just talking to me about the saddest thing she ever heard and it was about this woman who was doing some study or something on people who die and they have no one in their life, not one person. It was so sad to hear that.

Re: Do you know anyone that does not have one
It is so sad when people think it's our choice to be outcasts. I had people tell me I was a snob. That's why they would have nothing to do with me. People would always make excuses to have nothing to do with me. Thanks for the hugs.

She could suffer from Social Phobia. Many people who have social phobia seem like they are ok with people and sometimes people close to them never even know that they suffer from it.
