I work at a pharmacy and i see this too with medicaid. They drive expensive cars but they get their medical/prescription plans through the state
How do you know that it's not someone else's car? Just like the Coach bag could've been a gift, a knock off, or obtained before the person fell on hard times.
I have no issues with programs that help children. I would rather see my tax dollars going toward helping children out than being used to buy a $1k shower curtain for a politician.

What I don't understand is when you see people using foodstamps or WIC and they have a $200 cell phone and a COach bag...that just doesn't add up to me.
I feel that there are people who use it to get back on their feet and then there are people who use it forever and abuse the system.
AMEN
If you need it you need it.
If it's something you use cause you don't want to work or if you pop out kids to stay on but I have to pay for it then I have A SERIOUS problem with it.

I raised a child alone for 14 years without one cent of child support. There was a time when my son was about 7 that I needed to dump a fortune into my car to keep it running & my rent went up. I went to social services with my tail between my legs in what was probably the lowest moment of my life to ask for emergancy food stamps just for few weeks because I only got paid once a month and I had no money at all. I sat there all day feeling like a turd & when it was finally my turn they told me NO because I made 75 cents more a week BEFORE TAXES than the cut off. I told the lady I had no food & she told me too bad. If I were a jackoff loser that sat home & watched jerry springer I would have qualified, but as a worker I didn't. Its an effed up system that needs to be abolished & reinvented so only people that TRY to do something for themselves can get services.
ohmigod, that is horrifying..... it truly is amazing how poorly they treat people when they are at their lowest moment and trying to rise above it.
I have a friend who is severely disabled, and has more proof in medical files of her disabilities than you could ever imagine.... yet they treated her like crap, and it took years for her to get medicaid. (her medical bills are $2000+ a month, and she can, at her best moments of health, work only part time)
I totally agree with you all... it's so necessary and important for the people who need it, yet the cr@p that abuses the system ruins it for everyone, and results in the deserving being treated horribly

my sister needed wic and welfare for about 2 years or so when she was a single mom--living in a 1 bdrm basement apt. in bklyn with her daugther and other sister. she made min. wage as a cashier and received zero support from the father. so she had to get help. today, she has been in the military for the past 7 years---has spent time living in Bahrain, Belgium, and the Czech Republic....has no bills but her mortgage payment and utilities--a college fund set up for her daughter works in the legal dept. at her base, and is a Chief Petty Officer with her own asst.
that's a really inspiring story! good for your sister for using those programs in a positive way and getting back on her feet! she sounds like a great role model.
I completely agree. Reading this positive story made me so happy.
