clomid question
A friend of mine is going to see a fertility specialist and ask for the dr to put her on clomid(she wants to start it right away). I told her that she will probably have to be tested before she can go on it. She thinks I am wrong.
My question is don't you have to be tested to be put on it?
TIA

Re: clomid question
Tested for what? I'm not sure what you mean. An RE will do bloodwork and a sonogram before prescribing any meds.
She will have to wait until after AF to start Clomid, is that "right away"?

She thinks that she isn't ovuluating and that a RE will automatically give her clomid without bloodwork, sono etc. I told her no there was more to it then that.
Thanks.

Gotcha - she'll have to get bloodwork and a sono at least. Good luck to her -

Re: clomid question
Honestly, depends on the doctor. If its not an RE, they may not do bloodwork but will probably do a sono. My OB/GYN had given me Clomid, didn't do bloodwork but did a sono. He also didn't monitor me like he should have and back then I had no idea when I was ovulating. I think its important for her to see a physician that will not only give her Clomid, but will monitor the progress.
Good luck to her!

Re: clomid question
my OB prescribed clomid without further testing because I was having very long irregular cycles.

Like Lauren said, it depends on the dr
IMO Clomid is given out like candy these days!

I agree that Clomid is overprescribed without proper monitoring. The OP said her friend was going to an RE though, not a regular ob/gyn which is why I said I thought she would have to have bloodwork/sono done. If it was an ob/gyn that's a different story.

Re: clomid question
If she is seeing an RE they will definitely do blood and sono to make a diagnosis. If she is just seein an ob/gyn is it possible she can get the clomid without any testing. I was reading in a book how this is done, and its really not a good thing. Clomid can really mess things up if not administered correctly and monitored.
