I HATE my curtains...help me...

Ok, I bought these curtains and I thought I loved them, but I really don't. I despise them. They're wrinkly and they make the room too dark. Oh how I wish I saved the packaging to JC Penneys...

Anyway..here are some pics of my living room. I really want to room to look bright and airy. We're getting a bow window put in this month and I'd still like to put curtains on the windows. What do you suggest ladies?

What about doing a scarf valance? It will keep the room looking bright.

This is what the previous owners did. I still havent gotten to window treatments yet..Chat Icon

I would go with something longer (to the floor) and dramatic.. maybe a fringe or beaded trim.. I would also get a 1 1/2-2 inch thick rod with ornate finials...I would also hang the rod as close to the moulding on top as possible so that it elongates the window.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your curtains but I would hang them differently and get a different color to go with that beautiful piano you have..

Bed Bath has some really nice CRISP white sheers that would look great and would be sheer and let a lot of light in. I would definitely go longer - at least to the floor, and possibly with a bit of a droop... Then you could always add an interesting valance or scarf with some decorative edging. I always think that nice edging makes the curtain appear "richer." HTH

P.S. - why not use the JCP curtains in your bedroom? I think they would go great with your new furniture and walls that you posted a while back...just an idea since you don't like them in the liv room...

I have the same accent wall and I was hard pressed to go red or go light. In the end I am in love with these $20.00 panels from Lowes, plus sheers. I got the double rod from Linens and Things so we only had to hang it once and really great finials.

Going with red/tan/white stripes is nice cause it brought the red - but not too much - into the beige wall...

We have a bay window and it looks great - we keep the sheers down all the time, keep the panels back but can bring them down too. You can also tie the panels in the middle for another look.

How about tab tops--they have a lighter look

Re: I HATE my curtains...help me...

I agree with the pp that the curtains should go to the floor. Adding sheers and possibly a double rod - for the layerd effect instead of the bunched up effect, would keep it light while still providing privacy.

Something in linen would be nice.

Something like this would tie in your two wall colors.

As would this one.

Maybe something with a dark red accent, to tie in with your accent wall?

I agree with the other posters who said they need to be longer and puddle a little on the floor. I would also purchase a big pull for a tye back - something with red and gold in it with a big tassle. I would still do the gold/deeper color curtains.
