It's just a glorified Neon anyway... I'm surprised the Magnum Wagon didn't sell - I always thought it was a hot car.

Re: It's a sad day for GoldenRod
I did a case study on them in my UG New Product Marketing class. They were originally designed to be a newer, updated hurse, but the funeral market wasn't interested, so they made a few changes to the interior and re-launched as a family car.

Re: It's a sad day for GoldenRod
I've been monitoring this for a while. Surprisingly, it's a popular topic on the PT Cruiser forums I'm on....
It just makes mine more rare and collectible. Plus, they only made my color for about 2 years. That, and the gold-plated pieces mean I can't "hide" in a parking lot.....
While it is sad to see it go, I wouldn't buy one for our next car anyway. It's great for 2 or 3 people, but with 4 of us now, and gear for 4, there's just not enough room. I can't even pick up my bro and SIL from the train station without taking a car seat out.
Even if we upgrade cars, I'll still keep the PT for fun.

The prototype was based on the Neon. Production car is not based on the Neon.

I've seen many of the old prototypes, pre-production cars, etc. There was no way it would ever be able to be a hurse. It's just way too short to be a hurse. Nesbit designed it from the start to be an entry-level family car. They were shooting for the younger drivers, but it caught on more with the older generation.

Re: It's a sad day for GoldenRod
There's a PT Cruiser club that meets around the corner from us. She has a PT Cruiser on her mailbox and 2 PT's thats are customized. Once a year they get about 30 PT's together and we see them driving down the street. I guess those who own them really love them

That's the club I belong to! She actually has 3 PTs! It's just her and her husband, so they have to decide which PT(s) to bring to events!

Re: It's a sad day for GoldenRod
Just saw a news article... I'll have to do more research, though to see if it's totally accurate. Looks like the convertible will be dropped, but not the hard top sedan.

Chrysler will keep PT Cruiser, cut convertible October 31, 2007
By JUSTIN HYDE
FREE PRESS WASHINGTON STAFF
Chrysler LLC will cut the PT Cruiser convertible from its lineup, but leave the regular Cruiser in production, a person familiar with the company's plans said today.
The retro-styled PT Cruiser had been on the short list of four models that Chrysler was expected to cut due to slow sales. Despite a sales decline of 27% through September, the PT Cruiser is still the third best-selling model in Chrysler's lineup, behind the 300 sedan and the Town & County minivan.
In addition to the PT Cruiser convertible, Chrysler will announce tomorrow that it will shed the Pacifica wagon, the Crossfire coupe and the Dodge Magnum wagon over the 2008 model year. The aging Pacifica and Crossfire share no common underpinnings with other Chrysler vehicles and need expensive updates, while the slow-selling Magnum will be replaced by the Dodge Journey crossover when it launches next year.
The PT Cruiser has been a mainstay of the Chrysler lineup, and the company has struggled to find a way of updating the Mexico-build wagon without losing its styling flair. The PT Cruiser has often been the most reliable Chrysler in durability surveys, and fans of the model started an online petition in August to convince Chrysler to keep it in production.

They bought a convertible last year.... The gold one is her husband's, and Plumetta and the vert are hers.
Here's a pic from one of her parties:Image Attachment(s):
