Flu shot?

Any of you guys get it? My ob said to get it, then we were at TArget this weekend and the lady (she was a nurse) was talking to my DH and told him I shouldn't get it. I am leaning towards what my ob says (esp. bc I am a teacher and have germs around me all day) but still makes me a little nervous.

Re: Flu shot?

My OB suggested I get it after my first trimester. I'm a little hesitant to do this being they are actually injecting the flu in your system. I'm petrified of getting really sick and than won't be able to take anything to help overcome it.

It's not a live culture of the flu so they're not actually injecting you with the flu virus.

ETA: I am not getting it. I am a healthy person who has never gotten the shot...I haven't read anything that has convinced me that I should start now.

Re: Flu shot?

I'm getting it next week, my dr told me to, and also the flu can be bad to get when your preggo, you would have to go to the hospital. I wouldn't take that chance.

I'm getting it, both my doctor and one of the pediatricians we interviewed recommend it.

I was told to avoid the inhalable flu vaccine, the injectable is supposed to be safer.

Whatever it is they are injecting makes you sick is what I hear.

I never gotten the shot or had the flu so not sure if I should start anything now.

I have gotten the shot numerous times and never gotten ill from it. I think the worse I got was a sore arm.

There are some who have not so great reactions and will get ill, but that is not the norm.

I am not sure if I am going to get it or not, I had planned on it but honestly now I am being lazy. (knock on wood) with or without the shot I havent gotten the flu since elementary school.

The flu is one of the deadliest virus from what I understand and can be even more complicated in pregnant women.

Re: Flu shot?

I am definitely going to get it. I have gotten it every year for the past 8 or so years, and the one year that I didn't... I got the damn flu! Chat Icon

My ob said that it was totally cool to do, also I read that while PG your whole immunity system goes down below to protect bebe. I would concur with this because I had gotten a cold when I was 2 months pg, and I fought it off for a whole month and a half.... grrrrrrrr

Re: Flu shot?

My ob and my mom (who is a nurse) both recommended I get it. I go tomorrow to get my shot. I am having a winter baby and baby will be too younge to get one. I was told to get one to protect me when pregnant and that the immunity will be passed to the baby for the first few weeks. And after that I won't have to worry about giving it to the baby since I got the shot. I am making DH get one too so he doesn't bring home the flu.

Re: Flu shot?

It's not a live virus. It's 3 strains of certain types of Flu's. It only prevents the spread of the virus and you can still get the Flu with the shot as well as the stomach flu. If you do get the flu with the shot it will just lessen the severity of your cold.

If you do get the shot ask for thermisol free (mercury free) Please.

with that said I will not get the shot, never have and never will. My DD got it once and will not get it again.

Spoke to my OB about it and she stated there is not live vassine and people who get sick from the shot tend to get it too late inthe season and wind up getting sick anyway. Plus as I stated you can still get the flu, it does not block all types of influenza's.

Re: Flu shot?

I got it this past Saturday. Both my OB and PCP thought it was extremely important. Even though I probably won't be returning to teaching the rest of this year, DH will be around lots of people everyday, so I would rather be safe than sorry.

Re: Flu shot?

I'm getting 1 next week- that's when my OB office is getting the thimerisol free ones in. I've never gotten a flu shot & I've never had the flu, but my OB said this is not the time to risk it.
