To those who have an MBA..
was it worth it? i've been working in business for a few years now (full-time) with a pretty good salary relative to other people my age.
i'm considering quitting and getting my MBA in a 2yr program.. and i want to know if it will be worth it (?)
any advice or experience you could share would help me with my decision!

Re: To those who have an MBA..
it really depends what you want to get your MBA in (concentration).
MBA's in finance have the most ROI. Those are the best paying positions with the best year-end bonuses but also have the most demanding work hours, etc.
I have my MBA in entrepreneurship and small business management- by nature, not a high paying degree, but it's a degree with a lot of potential and has served me well. I don't make major $$$ and not NEARLY as much as other MBAs but I'm a small-business gal not a big business gal. I like making enough money while not having to work crazy hours, just not for me.
Like anything, the degree is what you make of it. I don't necessarily think you need to quit your job and go full-time, unless you want to go into finance. If so, that's the usual route for that type of job.
I went to school PT for 3 years- it was doable- annoying, but not impossible.
good luck with your decision!

Re: To those who have an MBA..
I agree with Dina. The finance concentrations probably get the most return. The school that you go to also makes a difference.
I have a concentration in eBusiness and Marketing. At first, it didn't do much for me but during my last job search it was definitely a plus and I was able to command a more money. I got mine in 2 years PT while working. Having a business undergrad degree, allowed me to have 5 classes waived.
Good luck!

Re: To those who have an MBA..
I have an MBA in marketing and it was fully paid for by the company I work for. Would I say it was worth it.....that is hard to say. I haven't changed jobs, so I didn't see any huge pay increase....granted I didn't actually pay for school so that counts. I honestly think all education is worthy....it certainly can't hurt. I don't know your financial situation or current job situation, but a part time degree or executive MBA is def another way to go.
I do want to add that I made tons of great networking connections while doing my MBA, and also met two of my closest girlfriends in the program....and that you can't put a dollar value on!

I definitely agree with this.... When I started the program the company I was working for paid 80% of it. One year into the program I got laid off. The next job I got didn't pay for masters, so I ended up taking out loans for the next 3 quarters. Having a company pay for the 1st year helped tremendously.

Re: To those who have an MBA..
I paid for my MBA myself- I went to Baruch so all told I probably only took out 20k in loans- but I don't think it's a waste.... i want to start my own business (well, i'm in the process of doing so) so I know that the "stuff i learned" is going to give me a return... will I ever get the return of a finance person- probably not- but that isn't the lifestyle for me anyway.
I believe that education is NEVER a waste- so if you want to go for it, do!
good luck with what you decide.

Re: To those who have an MBA..
I have an MBA in Finance. My company paid 100% for it so I think it was worth it. I haven't really used it as I work in business but not finance but I think it is something that will help me in the future.
