Still having problems figuring out how to "manually" get my mom's songs off her computer and onto my ipod...
Could someone please help me?

Re: ipod: Starting to think I'm technologically challenged...
Make a playlist with the songs you want...and either burn it or when you hook up your ipod set it to download music from that playlist.

I just got this thing yesterday and have no idea how to do either of those things. When I plug my ipod into my mom's computer it doesn't say anything about downloading...

Try reading this, from the apple website. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61148
Ok so when the iPod is plugged in there should be a little iPod icon on the menu on the left. if you click on that and then click on the Summary tab select "Manually Manage music and videos" Then apparently you can just drag each individual song or playlist onto the iPod icon to add it to your iPod.

Plug your iPod into your mom's computer.
iTunes should open automatically; if not, open it. You should see your iPod in the left hand column (under where it says Music, Movies, etc.).
In iTunes, click the Options button, then Music, then select Manually Manage Songs and Playlists.
Go to the list of your mom's music.
Highlight the songs you want, then click and drag them over to your iPod's icon. The songs will start to download immediately.

At the very top -- like where File, Edit, View are.
It may be called Controls instead of Options. Sorry.

Hmm, is it under Advanced then?
I don't have iTunes on this computer, so I'm doing this from (fuzzy) memory.

Under "View" is "View Options". When I click on that there is a list of items w/ check boxes but none of what you said I should use.

Wait wait wait. So you're iPod isn't connected? I think the option is only available when an iPod is connected. Is it not recognizing yours?

Re: ipod: Starting to think I'm technologically challenged...
This is straight from the iTunes manual:
You might want to manage songs on your iPod manually if you want to use your iPod with more than one computer, or if your iTunes library has more music than your iPod can hold.
To load songs onto iPod manually: -- Connect your iPod to your computer. -- When the iPod icon appears in the iTunes window (under Devices), select it. -- If the Summary pane is not showing, click the Summary tab. -- Select "Manually manage music." (If you have an iPod that displays video, the checkbox says "Manually manage music and video.") --Click Music (below Library, on the left side of the iTunes window) and then drag songs and playlists to your iPod.

I guess that's what's happening. I can't find an ipod icon connect anywhere.

If iTunes is running on your mom's computer and your iPod is plugged into the USB port it should automatically pop up in the iTunes menu on the left. It should say "yournamehere"iPod.
Like when I plug mine into my computer and iTunes starts up it says "Jenn's iPod".
Follow?

Re: ipod: Starting to think I'm technologically challenged...
Well no wonder you can't get the songs onto your iPod!
First I would close iTunes, then reopen it and see if it recognizes your iPod.
If not, I would restart the computer, then plug in your iPod and see if it works.
