Starting from scratch...what was the first room you furnished?

DH and I are going to move into our house next month and are going from a smallish one bedroom to a 4 bedroom house with dining room, family room, formal living room, etc...

What was the first room you concentrated on? At this point we would have only really our bed and desks...the couch we are using now is more of a futon, so that would go into one of the guestrooms because we are going to have my mom staying with us right away to help with the move...

Where do you start with furniture? What was the first room that you bought for to make it feel more like a home? i think I am a little overwhelmed. DH and I work like crazy so we are going to be taking things slow..

I am in the same boat as you. Luckily we bought a brand new dining room set from the Seller so we don't have to worry about that. IMO, the most important rooms are the rooms you are going to be spending the most time in. I would say Dining area and probably the room you are putting the TV in would be important.

Take it one room at a time though and try to work with the furniture you have now just to get by

We had LR furniture from the apart, along with a kitchen table, my parents donated a bedroom set for the guest room, so we purchased a DR set as the first NEW furniture for the house.

Oh wait, I take that back. First, we purchased a futon for the office, so we had something to relax on in there.

Our priorities were the bedroom, living room, kitchen table and computer desk.

We concentrated on the den and the master bedroom first.

We needed everything as well. The order we did things in was totally random. We went furniture store hopping up Route 110 looking for everything at once (DR/LR/BR) and bought in the order we found stuff we liked.

First was dining room table & chairs - at Penn Furniture's going out of business sale. We also got king size mattress & box spring. We bought a frame when we scheduled delivery of the bed.

We found a sofa/loveseat/table combo that was a floor sample in perfect condition at a ridiculously low price, so we bought that.

We have a hold on BR furniture that we are going to try and take delivery on in the next 3 weeks.

We started with the den bc we knew we would be spending most of our time there.

We had our LR furniture so we concentrated on our DR first (only b/c we finished that room along w/ LR first) & have a BR set picked out but will wait for delivery in the next month or so.

We did our bedroom first.

We did our formal living room, den and bedroom first. We also got a small kitchen table right away. After that we went with the dining room, computer room, guest room etc.

We did our bedroom first.

Now, 7 years later, and most rooms on the way to be re-done, we want to re-do our bedroom again!

bedroom, den and dining room. Right now we have an empty formal living room and two empty bedrooms. The living room I want is $$$$$ so we are waiting until after the holidays.

we just furnished as we saw something.
Not really concentrating on one particular room. We did want the family room and bedroom though as our first priorities.

It took us 2 years but finally every room in the house is fully furnished. I do however want a new dining room set, a curio cabinet and a china cabinet
