If you were going to purchase a used car
What would be the Max mileage you would get a car with?
Background. My lease is up and I can't stomach spending $56k on a new car. I am looking for a slightly used car and don't know what mileage would be good.

Re: If you were going to purchase a used car
Well it would depend on the year of the car and how many miles it had on it, plus that usually has an effect on the price.
I bought a used car a few years ago, it was a year old and only had about 5K miles on it.
This year I bought Jeep, also a year old but it already had about 30K miles on it. The mileage was a bit high but the price was right, so I got it.

Re: If you were going to purchase a used car
I am looking at a Yukon XL, Suburban or Expedition. I want to keep it in the past 1-3 years. I don't want to spend a fortune but I want to get (either installed already or after purchased installed) a nav and DVD system. We already have DH's truck that we pay a lot a month for so I dont want to go adding another 600+ payment to our budget.

Re: If you were going to purchase a used car
Honestly, it depends on the make of car, and the overall condition of it. I would trust a pre-owned from Mercedes or BMW over Ford, for example, because they have scheduled maintenance...... JMHO.

as long as it had a warranty, I would stick with Japanese and German cards. JMO.

Right now I have an Acura which I love. They don't make a car big enough for the 5 of us and luggage. Yes, I need space for our luggage since we go upstate often. My car is just too snug for us.

What about a Trailblazer..... the 2003 EXT is huge & has a third row. You can get a great deal on them b/c the body style changed. I have seen some for around $20K with low milage. They drive very well also. The newer TrailBlazer is smaller.

It totally depends on the type of car. You will spend more money on a used BMW than you will on a used Jeep.

Re: If you were going to purchase a used car
My MDX has the 3rd row seat but that doesn't leave very much space in back for anything when the 3rd row is up. I want lots of space with all 3 rows up, captains chairs in the middle row and lots of storage space in the back.

Not sure what SUVs have the captains chairs in the middle row....I know a few Mini Vans that have that though.

DH said depending on how old the car is, expect no more than 12K miles a year for how old the car is.

I know the excursion has this. My SIL drives one. The expedition doesn't, I drive one. If you really need/want the 3rd row seat with the captains chairs, go for the excursion. If you can find one, I would recommend the deisel. With a deisel, mileage won't make a difference. Those engines last FOREVER.

Re: If you were going to purchase a used car
It depends on the year of the car....I use a 10thousand per year ratio....so if the car is two years old it should have under 20thousand miles....

My DH has a diesel... 3 of them actually. They DO run forever. I don't like trying to find a diesel station (not all have diesel). Also diesel prices have remaind constant, yet higher than gas even though it doesn't take as much to make diesel I would love a huge hybrid to be quite honest

Re: If you were going to purchase a used car
I bought out my friend lease and balloon note on a Honda Pilot and it came to $24,500. The truck had just over 20,000 miles. My initial budget was under $20,000 and under 20,000 miles. But I knew I was getting such a good deal that I couldn't turn it down.

We always buy used cars - we bought both our cars (Subaru outback and toyota sequoia) with 15,000 miles on them.
