boss made comment about my clothes!

When I came into work this morning my boss commented on how I was ‘exagerating’ my pregnancy by wearing baggy tops!! I am 13 weeks tomorrow.

I am wearing a shirt I bought at the Gap the other day. It is one of those wide bottom button downs with pleats on top. Yes it looks maternity, but it’s the style of the clothes I am seeing in the stores and in the magazines lately! He said sorry, he didn’t mean to tease me, and that he wife is pregnant an is the same way… bla, bla bla… I told him it was comfortable and I bought it at the Gap. Whatever!!! I wish people would just shut up and say nice things or say nothing at all!!!

All the tops look like that right now...you see super skinny teenagers wearing the same tops, and it looks like they have a belly.

Chalk it up to not thinking before he spoke. Chat Icon

He sounds like one of those people who lack certain social skills. I think those tops are comveniently in style right now. Does he live under a rock . . . does he not see all the women wearing this style now! Oh, men. Chat Icon

I wish men could be pregnant for just one week to see how it feels. I bet none of them would get off the couch.

Re: boss made comment about my clothes!

We work in the fashion industry and he is younger than me and very much in style, in a preppy way. He was laughing about it and started talking about his preganant wife who 'did the same thing'.

I just find that if I have my top buttton open on my pants, I can get away with it with certain tops! My stomach is very uncomfortable right now.

Re: boss made comment about my clothes!

Ugh, I wish these idiots who make these comments could be pregnant and see exactly how uncomfortable it is at 13 weeks to wear your pre-preggo clothes.

I had someone tell me the same thing - that I was really trying to exaggerate things but it was just the cut of the shirt - Ann Taylor Loft, empire waist. What can you do? And then I had someone else tell me that I was wearing maternity clothes much too soon. But my regular clothes were snug and uncomfortable and made me feel fat.

People suck.

People suck. Those shirts are in style right now. Sometimes I even find myself doing double takes in the mall when teenagers are wearing them cause I think they make people look pregnant. Wear what is comfortable. Around 13 weeks is when all my clothes started becoming unbearable. Chat Icon

Re: boss made comment about my clothes!

Why do people think it is their place to tell you you are "exaggerating" the pregnancy or wearing certain clothes too soon? You should wear whatever makes you comfortable and the only time I can see someone saying you are wearing maternity stuff too soon is if you don't want people to know yet.

He sounds like a real jerk. Tell him to give you a clothing allowance and you will go buy a new wardrobe that is up to his standards. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
