Turtle owners

What kind of turtle do you have? (Besides Colleen - I am obsessed with hers! Chat Icon )

Where do you keep them?

What do they eat?

Do they smell?

Do they bite? Chat Icon

I REALLY WANT ONE!

Re: Turtle owners

I used to have Western Painted water turtles.
You need to change the water at least 1x per week because it will smell.
I kept them in a 30 gallon tank.
I fed them turtle pellets and occasionally tomatoes. They never bit.

Re: Turtle owners

Don't have a turtle, but here's an interesting fact...

I live in New Jersey and did you know it is illegal to sell turtles in this state???

(although I am sure it is not hard to just go to NY and get one!!!)

Found a turtle in my parent's driveway once!!

a yellow bellied cooter. We got her when she was 1 inch and now she is the size of a small dinner plate.

she is in =our den in a 30 or 40 gallon tank (we need a bigger one for her)

Pellets, fresh shrimp, dried shrimp, carrots, greens

If DH doesn't clean the tank yes but we bought a heavy duty filter.

she bit my dh once when he had is hand in the tank to fix the filter. She thought it was food. When we let her walk around out of the tank she never bites. She loves to find hiding spots so we have to play hide and seek with her.
