Can you paint IKEA furntire?
The particle board type with the coating thingy?
I have a white piece from IKEA that I would love to darken to match my headboard.
Is this something you can paint? If so, what type of paint?
TIA!

I think there is some kind of primer you can put on the laminate so it can be painted.

I think if you hand sand it a little bit to ruffen it up some and then paint it, it should work.

Re: Can you paint IKEA furntire?
I was thinking the same thing just the other day. I have an Ikea dresser for my sons that really doesnt match their room. But we are getting them a good bedroom set next year so I want to make due. I've done this with wood so I don't know how well it will worth with the Ikea stuff:
Sand it (to roughen it as was mentioned upthread) prime it - do 2 coats paint it Seal it with polyurethane - there is a non oil/low odor one that works great if you dont want to do the oil (who does??) - also 2 coats - dry between
I think I'm going to try it bc I have nothing to lose over here.
ETA: If you do all the other steps, there's no reason you can't use latex paint.

Re: Can you paint IKEA furntire?
Yes, you can paint it, and you don't need to sand.
YOu jsut need a primer that adheres to glossy surfaces.
I'ved used Zinsser Primers
for similar projects
The spray on BIN is good (but stinky) , if you have a place to spray -paint. It goes on smoothly & evenly.
I've also used a brush on one ( not sure if it was BIN or BIN 123, ) and it was good, but glue e-like, so it was hard to brush on evenly.
Just make sure ALL surface area is covered, or the paint won't stick.

OH! That is fantastic news!! Thanks so much!
Doesnt seem worth all the work when sanding is involved!
