So, um, I DID IT!!!!
I am now officially a brunette  
I did it Saturday. Still getting used to it but I *think* I like it so far...
I'm leaving for Germany this afternoon but I'll try to take a pic and post it before I go.
ETA: this was my inspirational color (alexis bledel):
