Wedding gift spinoff-
How much do you give if you don't go to the wedding? Is it the same as if you went, or is it less?

I give less. We don't go to a lot of weddings and I just responded no for the first time and gave them $100. I thought that was generous considering they aren't paying for me to be their. This also wasn't a family member or even a friend someone I use to work with it. I think I would give half of what I would normally give if I was going. My DH on the other hand probably would say don't give anything.

I depends on who it is. If it was a family member or close friend I would give the same gift, even if I did not attend.
If it is just a co-worker or something like that, I may not give the same amount but I would not give that much less.

Totally depends on who it is. If I'm not close with them, I either send $100 or a gift for that amount off the registry. If I am close, I give what I normally would.

If DH or I are close to them and for some extenuating circumstance we can't make it to the wedding we would gift our normal gift.
Any other situation we send a check of $75 with our rsvp.

I would say 100 is fair if you're not going to the wedding and you didn't RSVP as a yes.

We've only bowed out of one wedding.
We sent $150.
The couple came to our wedding & gave us $150. Just like it was an interest free loan.

i've never been in the situation, but i think i'd give less. i was in it though, for a shower. the girl came to mine but i couldn't go to hers. i think i spent about half what she spent on me.
If it helps at all, most people who didn't come to my wedding didn't send a gift. same with the shower - and that was DH's extended family, which I thought was pretty tacky. of the ppl who didn't come to my wedding, the best gift i got was $100 I think.
