Re: How long does a newborn stay in a bassinet?

we plan on about 2 months, but the babys rom is like 5 feet from ours so it wont be far once we transition to the crib...if the room is far i would say maybe longer

It depends. For us, not at all since she was fine in her crib. Some babies like that feeling of being confined in teh bassinet and some don't. It just depends on the baby. I think the average is three months, though.

I just read from consumer reports today that a baby should stay in a bassinet for about 3 months or 18-20 pounds( I think that was the weight)

Those are two TOTALLY different things. DS is 3+ months old and 11.5 lbs and that is farily average for weight (maybe a little small, but not super tiny).

We had DS in his until last week, he still fits in it and if it gets hot again he will be back in it in our room bc he doesn't have ac in his room.

Re: How long does a newborn stay in a bassinet?

We took Lily out at about 2 months. She likes to move her arms around a lot in her sleep, and she was starting to hit the sides, so I was afraid she'd start waking herself up - and since she sleeps through the night, I did not want her doing anything that would wake herself up!
Luckily, it was also around the same time we were throwing a baby shower for my sister (due in September), and I wanted to pass along the bassinet to her and use it for a wishing well for her.
She's fine in her crib and loves to be able to move around more when she sleeps.

There is a weight limited to most bassinets..most babies can stay in the bassinet until they start rolling around or pushing up...

We moved out first son when he started to sleep a long stretch/thru the night (for him was 11pm-5am). that was about 12 weeks. My bassinet's weight limit is 15 lbs and my son reached that by 3 months anyway.

Re: How long does a newborn stay in a bassinet?

DS is only in his if it's too hot since we only have AC in our room.

But at 3 months, he's already getting a little long for it and the weight limit is fast approaching too.

Consumer reports says "whichever comes first". The idea is that a baby shouldnt be in a bassinet after they are able to push up with their arms or if they reach the weight requirement.
