Freaking out -- any suggestions??
My sister just called asking DH to go to her house. Her Boyfriend is threatening her. She called the cops too. The cops are there and say he doesn't have to leave since he is a tenant because he gets mail there. I knew something like this would happen, it was just a matter of time. So I called my 79-year-old mother and told her to take a taxi to my sister's house - I do NOT want her staying alone with him... I am so freaking scared for her....don't know what I can do....or what else she can do to protect herself. She is the homeowner. She has 2 gdogs. I told her she could come here, but he is psycho and God knows what he would do to her house....she is 45 years old...

Why doesn't she leave? Can she get an order or protection against him?

Is it really a good idea to have your mom go there?

Re: Freaking out -- any suggestions??
Yes the cops are there now and said she has to file a landlord/tenant complaint in Hempstead tomorrow. He hasn't touched her, has threatened her but since he hasn't done anything the cops can't do anything.
I *think* if my mom is there he wouldn't do anything ....

OMG, I am so sorry for your sister. I agree, maybe your mom shouldn't go over there if it is such a volatile situation. I think for safety's sake, your sister should just leave tonight and stay with you. Even if the boyfriend damages the house, it's worth it to ensure her safety.

Blimey Kara, can your sister not come to you for the night? If he does do anything to her house, which being as the cops have already been called and are aware of the situation would be extremely dumb, the cops can then do something. Does he go to work tomorrow? I'd have the locksmith there the second he left, leave his belongings in the street and file a complaint. I hope everything is Ok

Re: Freaking out -- any suggestions??
DH gave him $100 to stay in a hotel. Mom showed up after the BF left. Sister is coming to my house with DH.
I knew it I knew it -- he has been aggressive since the beginning, but she wouldn't listen...

Just sent you FM.
I hope you're sister is doing okay today. These things are so scary and at the same time very, very complicated.

Getting an Order of Protection is only an option if there are ciminal charges pressed. From what I read, she doesn't have children with him and therefore cannot access the Family Court for a civil Order of Protection.
I can't say this enough times, it's very easy for someone not in an abusive situation to say the person should just leave. It's far more complicated than that and needs to be planned very, very carefully.
