Does anyone else's job do this?
So, I am very fortunate that my job gives me 8 weeks full pay after I have the baby. However, the catch with it is they take away a days pay for any sick days you have taken with a year of your due date. I'm not even talking about just the calender year. I am talking about a full year.
So, I am due Sept 2nd, so I would get 8 weeks pay from this day or whenever I go out less any sick days I have taken from the previous September! I am furious about this! I do not feel that I should be penalized for sick days that I took when I was not even pregnant!!! I mean, I could kind of sort of understand if they took them away from me for the calender year or even for 9 months!
Does anyone even know if this is legal?

I would say since they probably aren't required to give you any paid time off for maternity, they can set the policy to be whatever they want it to be.
It does seem silly to dock you for sick days before you were even pregnant though

It sounds like they have the upper hand being that they are paying you full pay for the 8 weeks. It's a double-edged sword but I would be miffed too.

I agree. Actually companies aren't legally required to give any time off - even vacation days therefore they can play around with that stuff as much as they want.
But 8 weeks full pay is amazing. State insurance is $170 a week. So look at that positive.

Since companies have no legal obligation to give you any maternity leave (with pay), they can probably do whatever they want.
I suppose in a way, mine does this. I get no paid maternity leave, but I can use any sick time and vacation time I have remaining. So if I take no sick time now, I can use it all when I go on leave, but any sick time is removed from my leave with pay in effect.

Mine actually does take sick time into account from the beginning of the year, though. They pay 100% up to a certain amount of hours, then they still pay, but at a declining rate of 5% per week I believe.
