Ok so I have a question
First off I do not want anyone to take this the wrong way or that I am ignorant..etc. I have a question about my boss. He is Jewish and has recently began growing a beard, I asked him what it was about he said he was going through some stuff and that it's only temporary. What is the reason for this? (death in the family, mourning, etc) Can anyone answer this? TIA

Well considering he says it is temporary... I don't know if it is a religious thing but more a depression thing in which some have a tendency to let personal appearances go...

Re: Ok so I have a question
Is he orthodox? After death, the mourners aren't supposed to shave for seven days after the burial.. Also I remember my great aunt & uncle covering their mirrors for a long time afterwards. Something about mourning & vanity.
From one the websites I found on Jewish death rites: In a strict observance, they refrain from sex, adornment, shaving (for men), haircuts, make-up, and anointing (perfumes and oils). There are restrictions even on bathing (do it for hygiene, not pleasure) and on changing one's clothes (nothing freshly laundered may be worn). Mourners do not wear leather shoes, which are considered luxurious, but rather socks or cloth slippers.
