Re: Northport or Pt. Washington?

I used to live in E. Northport, and years ago I worked in Port Washington, so I am familiar with both towns. Personally, I love Northport and the surounding area and village. The village is so quaint and that's where DH proposed to me! I will say that the commute into/out of the city from Northport could be long for DH. Also, if I am not mistaken, he might have to switch trains at Huntington to get back to E. Northport...Not that it is a total big deal, but for me I would dread the commute. Good luck with your decision~either way you cannot go wrong with either of those places.

We looked at Glen Head also, and liked it, but you definitely have more of a villagey feel in PW or Northport. The real minus for us though was the commute. The local train line is Oyster Bay, which stinks. Very few trains and lots of delays, plus a switch in Jamaica. We ruled out Roslyn Hts. for the same reason, which we were also considering.

I don't know much at all about Sea Cliff.

You are comparing apples and oranges here. These areas are nowhere near eachother. Pt. Wash would be my choice for the superior school district. Also a quick and easy commute to Manhattan.

Northport/East Northport is a VERY good district as well...

I work a bit north of West Main Street. From the west main street area, it takes 30 minutes to get up to the LIE on 101/SearingTown road. If you go with no traffic, or go over the 30 MPH speed limit, then sure you'll make it quicker than a half hour.

I lived in Port Washington for a number of years (I lived north of Main Street, right by the King Kullen) and the commute was a huge, huge con for me. There is one road in or out of Port Washington, so when there is traffic or an accident, forget it! It can easily be 30 minutes to the LIE. Plus, if you are north of Main Street, you have to battle your way down Main Street before you even hit Searingtown Road. Your only other option is to cut through Rosyln, which only works if you are going west ultimately, and can be just as bad.
