screening?
is it typical for people renting an apartment in a house to wait on getting back to you about whether or not they'll rent it to you when you tell them you're definitely interested?

Re: screening?
I would say it is typical.
They may want to see if there are other people interested (and willing to pay more).
Ages ago, when I was looking for an apartment with my boyfriend, we found one we loved with a great deal. We told the landlord we'd take it & asked if we could give a deposit right there. He said no, he wanted to show it around first.
There were people that offered more money for the apartment after us, he declined their offer too.
It took a week or 2 before he made his decision to rent it to us. It also took a lot of behind the scenes work on our part - having my mom contact her old co-worker's son who was engaged to the landlord's daughter.

Re: screening?
I think it's typical. Especially if they already have other appointments set up to show the apartment.

Re: screening?
Yes, it's typical, most times people will want to run a credit check before renting out an apartment, and those take a little time.
