Baby Name

Would you not choose a name for your child if a DISTANT friend chose it already?

Re: Baby Name

I would still use it if it was a name I loved. However, if I did not like the child, I am sure I would grow tired of the name quickly.

Re: Baby Name

As long as the name is not used by someone in the family...I wouldn't mind using it.

distant FRIEND: I wouldn't care.

If it were a distant family member, but they had the same LAST name as us, I would choose a different first name.

Re: Baby Name

Yup!

If its a boy, I want to name my child the same name DH's BF's kid, but he wouldn't. It annoys me because it was grandfather's name, and the same first initial as my dad.

If its a girl, I will name it the same name as mom's BF's grandkid. I also went to lawschool with the mom.

Re: Baby Name

We actually really liked the name Colin, but a friend has a six year old Colin who's a bit, ummm, rambunctious. Now I cant think about the name Colin without hearing it screamed, "COLLLLIIIINNNNN!!!!!!!" So we got Cole from Colin. Chat Icon

Re: Baby Name

I would probably still use it if it was just a distant friend and I really like the name. If it was very original, then maybe not.

Re: Baby Name

I hate when you can't help but associate a name with someone and their personality. My DH loves the name Paul and when I told him that there is a resident where I work named that and I really don't like him so I'll NEVER name my son that he gets all bent out of shapeChat Icon

Re: Baby Name

No, and Ive learned to keep my mouth shut when it comes to baby names around close friends and family- BOTH my SIL and BF named their daughters the name I told them I loved- Marisa ( the girls are 1 yr apart and I was so angry but what do you say- no you cant use that name I told you I was going to??) so I will NOT be using that name now!!!! and they dont know what I want to name my kids either!

Re: Baby Name

I would name it after a DISTANT relative or friend as long as it was a different last name.
