Freddy update
Good news: his kidneys have made an improvement. They are not doing dialysis on him today and will check him again tomorrow. That could be great news for his rehab plan. That means he wouldn't have to worry about getting dialysis every other day while rehabbing. Dialysis is a huge strain on the body.
He's still confused but talking more and is more comprehensible. I found out last night that he can read! The whole place is astounded by his progress. They see a giant improvement and as soon as they can get his medical situation stable they are all excited about him going to rehab. It probably won't happen until next week sometime. It may not even happen until I'm back from vacation.
Either way..Freddy is fighting.
It means so much that I can post this hear and receive all of your good wishes. Your prayers have helped..they really have. I think they've helped me more than Fred.
I'm going to get some simple board games for him tonight. The NP suggested something to help him pass the time.
Can anyone recommend some simple games that he may be able to tolerate? Really simple for now since he's easily distracted.

Re: Freddy update
what about scrabble?? At the beginning it can be simple words... and as he gets better, he can play at a more advanced level?
Glad to hear he is doing better.

Re: Freddy update
That's great news!!!! I always look forward to your updates.
The only game I thought of was Connect Four. Don't ask me why, but I've always liked this game. .
ETA: also those memory cards that you use with kids. Where you flip them all upside down and try to match a pair. I played this a lot w/DH.

I feel like if you go to toys r us they have those travel type games like travel tic tac toe and simple games like that. I dont know of any others off the top of my head but i am sure they will have a ton. Would some kind of memory game be good? maybe connect four and things like that too......
I am so happy to hear how well he is doing!

Re: Freddy update
how about a deck of cards so he can play solitaire - or many other games with his visitors. I would also get him those game magazines that have puzzles in them.
that is such amazing news!!

He's not quite up to that. But it's better every day.
The kidney doc thinks that his kidneys will make a complete recovery.

Good News!!
I think the memory cards are a good idea or maybe a simple card game like war or go fish.

Re: Freddy update
I'm always amazed at each update you write. It's amazing what he is recovering from, and how resilient the human body is.
You know better than us what his "mental age" is, but you may want to look at TRU, and check out the board games for particular age groups.
Chutes and Ladders, perhaps?
