Re: Spinoff from the wedding related post...

Having had a small wedding, I would hope that people would not have based their gift on that. We had just under 30 people, however we had an very ellegant dinner party at the Carltun and paid more pp than most people do at larger weddings.

Our guests knew we both do not have large famies (we can count both sides on 2 hands) and both just graduated school, so to invite every person we knew, just to fill a catering hall was not an option or desire

We also had just under 100 people. My DH's family is very small and mine is just a little bigger so we didnot have it in a big catering hall but a smaller - one wedding at a time - hall, which is exactly what we wanted!

If I had to travel, especially to an exotic place for a destination wedding, I would give a smaller gift because I could afford less after all the travel expenses. For a local wedding, venue doesn't matter; I give a gift based on how close I am to the person.

I have a range that I give depending on how close we are with the people, travel, and what they gave us (I would never give less then was given to us- I just couldn't)

the location has never been a factor
