Is it possible for the first house to be "the one"?

DH and I just started looking this weekend. The first house we looked at I FELL IN LOVE WITH...there is not one thing that we could find wrong, and it is everything we want plus more. We looked at others after that and today too, and nothing compares to that one, by a long shot. DH is very hesitant bc we just started looking. I love it so much that I cried today knowing that another couple fell in love with it at the open house yesterday.

Is it possible to find the one when you have just started or am I completely jumping the gun? Also, how long did it take u before you found "the one"?

We probably saw about 10 houses before we found "our one".
We didn't look for long. I too felt - hmm...maybe we're rushing into it, but honestly - you know when it's the one!

Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think so...It happened to us - 3 times!! Chat Icon

The first one, we backed out of after the inspection, because there were too many "ifs" and we knew we weren't up for the challenge. I loved the outside of the house - I still think about it, but I know we made the right decsion.

The second house fell through too bc the sellers didn't get any permits for the the work they did, and the town would not grant them. So, they would have had to rip everything out. We said no way to that one, bc the things they added is what made it so nice.

The third time is a charm. We found our house and are finally closing on it this week. It's WAY better than the other two, so I guess everything worked out!

Good luck!

ETA: We started looking in September and signed the contract for our house in January. If it wasn't for the holidays, I am sure it would have been sooner.

I think it depends. I remember wanting to buy the first house we looked at a year ago for aver $100 K more than I got my house for and my house is way better than that first one. Personally, I found it helpful to see what was out there and the prices for things before buying. This way, when we found our house which was priced right we jumped on it.

As for time, we casually looked from April-Sept then started seriously in Oct and found ours at the very end of Oct.

Our current home was the 3rd one we saw. I knew it was "it" immediately but we kept on looking at about 25 more and then went back and made the offer.

Re: Is it possible for the first house to be "the one"?

YES!!!!!!

THE FIRST CAN BE "THE ONE"!!!!

i just made my first mortgage payment on the first AND ONLY house we looked at!

granted, we talked about buying a house since before we got married. we would drive around the neighborhood looking for houses with signs. we drove by this one and we both loved it from the outside. when we finally decided to seriously purchase a home, we made an appointment to see it. WE FELL IN LOVE, PUT IN AN OFFER. THAT NIGHT WE GOT A COUNTER-OFFER. WE ACCEPTED THE COUNTER THE FOLLOWING MORNING.... AND WE WERE OFF AND RUNNING!!

i know it doesn't happen often, but i think it does happen.

just because you fell in love, don't let that control you... remember, this is still a business transaction.

THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!!!! Chat Icon

We ended up buying the first house my DH saw. We had been looking online and had a good idea of what we wanted in our price range. I had gone to a few open houses while he was working to get an idea what was out there. Then, one day, his dad was at the gym and someone told him about this FSBO. DH went that afternoon and asked if he could bring me back that night and we had our offer accepted the next day.

A friend of mine ended up looking for a long time and going back to buy the first house that they saw.

Our house was probably the third house we looked at. I fell in love and everyone (including DH) kept telling me that I needed to see more houses but I told them NO and kept telling DH that we were going to lose out on our dream house if we kept looking. We got into a bidding war with another couple but finally won it and now we're here living in our house...NOT looking further was the best decision we ever made!

We looked online for a year. The house we bought was the 3rd one we actually went inside.
