Right after High School I moved to Clearwater, FL (Tampa Bay) loved it for a while but missed.... FALL & Spring the most. I will never complain about the weather since I loved the in beween times the most and missed that. Food related: everything from diners, pizza, drinking tap water, good hair days (the water is harder and worse for my hair), bagels, Italian delii's (Like Iavarone Brothers) oh the list goes on...as you can see I didn't fare well and moved back after only 2 years.
I could have written this..its SO true..thats why we just moved back to LI this week after only 21 months in the Orlando area..

Re: Those of you who left NY...
Def the food. We have found a pretty good pizza place. I miss diners, delis, greek food, chinese food. And the list goes on. My DH and I will probably move to NC in a few years. We just moved to VA but I am not to happy here.

Re: Those of you who left NY...
I can count the things I miss on one hand, I would need a notebook to count the things that I don't miss (but I shant get into that now)
I miss: Dairy Barn (getting out of your car to buy milk is so over rated) Bagels (but my mom brings me some when she comes so its not that bad) The Family (of course, I had to say that) Old Navy and the shopping in general (well the Pound is worth $2...its a bargain for me) The smell of the Ocean...when you can catch a whiff on the South Shore
I don't miss: Chinese food (sorry kids, but Chinese food in the UK is cooked like it is in China, IMO its much much much better and more aunthentic than the food you get on LI) Pizza/Italian food because I don't like pizza or Italian food anyway! (shock horror) Aggressive LI drivers...if I signal, its because I want to get over, not just make my car look pretty!!!

Re: Those of you who left NY...
- Bagels - diners - pizza - deli's - bakery's (the only bakery here are the one's in Publix) - A hero sandwich with lots of meat - Places that are open past 11pm and 2am - Dailynews and Newsday (at least I can get the NY Post down here but it's a lot more then it is in NY)
eta: my boss found a pizza place by his house that the owners are from Long Island and they actually have the ingrediants shipped down. Even the water. OMG this is the best pizza I have ever eaten in FL. It tastes and looks exactly how a pizza should look and taste. It was a perfect slice. I was in heaven. I miss NY pizza but when I do I send him to this place

I miss everything about NY!! I miss the food (pizza, bagels, italian specialties), the RADIO STATIONS IN NC ARE HORRIBLE!!! We had to get satellite radio.... most of all I miss Manhattan.
I also mis Dunkin Donuts... they are so far and few here.

Re: Those of you who left NY...
For those that miss bagels I know a store in Queens that will ship them to you. Last time I was there they had it posted - not sure of the price. It's called Bagel Oasis and it's on the Horace Harding around Parsons Blvd/Utopia Pkwy area. They told me the bagels taste different elsewhere (and the pizza) because of the water.
