Those of you who left NY...
What do you miss the most?
DH and I are moving to Charlotte in 2 months. I think I'll miss good NY pizza the most!
Anyone else?

Re: Those of you who left NY...
Well, a couple of my cousins moved to TX a couple of years ago and they miss pizza, bagels, italian heros, and good italian and chinese restaurants.
We went to visit them last year and we had to bring bagels with us!

My SIL has a summer home in FL...when she's down there she goes nuts for NY Bagels! If anyone visits it's a must on her list!

What's the deal with that??? When I'm down there, my Sister and her family REFUSE to get pizza or chinese because they say it's soo bad. You would think with all the transplants moving all over the place, a NY'er would open up something along these lines down there. My nephew insisted on pizza while I was down there and they didn't offer it in individual slices - only a full pie

Welcome to CLT!
I miss the bagels, delis, and diners. You have no idea how difficult it is to find a good bacon and egg on a roll. Breakfast foods are just different. But there is a ton of good southern food.
We've actually found really good pizza.

Re: Those of you who left NY...
I know a few Italian restaurants have opened in NC (Raleigh area) by the owners of Cinelli's. So fear not...good Italian food can be found!!!
But what is with diners? Are you saying there aren't any diners in NC? Oh man.

Re: Those of you who left NY...
Definitely the food. But we have found GREAT pizza and decent chinese so we get by. I miss egg sammy's. We also miss prompt service in stores (like where they're yelling at you bc you don't know what you want yet)....as opposed to waiting a half hour for someone to take your order. And people that KNOW how to DRIVE. I've given up on a good diner, they just don't exist in the South. We have diners, but they're just not...Good.

Re: Those of you who left NY...
I'm moving to TX in 8 weeks and we have been down there alot during the course of our home building process. I will miss the Diners the most. We actually found good Italian and good Chinese. We were on a hunt! LOL Haven't had any bagels yet. And my friend from NY is opening a Deli down there so I am very excited about that =)

Outside of the NY Metro area LI incl...Diners are FAR AND FEW between! I remember going to VA to visit my friend - I asked if there were any diners for breakfast before heading home...she practically started crying! There are a ton of "greasy breakfast places"...that's it!

Oh, and I also missed boars head cold cuts... they didn't have them where I was in NC -- but they DO have them in certain parts of NC!

Re: Those of you who left NY...
block parties, vanilla chip italian ice, the bread from the bakery at the end of my old block.
We found really good pizza down here. One is called Brooklyn South, the one we usually order from is Fox's Pizza(I can't eat cheese, and they have a great veggie pie)
We found really good chinese.
We found Bagels.
My grocery store carries Boars Head...you know what we found as well? PARKING at the grocery store. SI was the worst. Or they would run out of carts...
I don't like Carolina BBQUE at all. I like the sauce mixed in.

the food. Bagels, pizza, diners and good italian restaurants. I've been down south for 7 years so I have found certain places that compare to what I miss from NY. it will only make youre trips back to NY even better.

We found great pizza as well! It's called Tony's Pizza and he is an authentic New Yorker - he has a wall size subway map up in his store! I know he has a few locations around the Charlotte area, but not sure he's in Indian Trail.

Re: Those of you who left NY...
Pretty much food related - pizza, bagels, and Dunkin Donuts!
Also, hearing a NY accent. I tend to hide mine because I get sick of people imitating me "What did you say? Cawfee? Say it again! Haha! That's so funny!"
I also miss trees. The trees here are very tiny (most of the neighborhoods were built on plains).
I miss good shopping. And good style. People here dress pretty poorly.
I also miss the ocean.

Re: Those of you who left NY...
Right after High School I moved to Clearwater, FL (Tampa Bay) loved it for a while but missed.... FALL & Spring the most. I will never complain about the weather since I loved the in beween times the most and missed that. Food related: everything from diners, pizza, drinking tap water, good hair days (the water is harder and worse for my hair), bagels, Italian delii's (Like Iavarone Brothers) oh the list goes on...as you can see I didn't fare well and moved back after only 2 years.
